Nine While Nine -- Diven Like the Snow

I was bored last night and thought about the Driven Like The Snow - Nine While Nine connection, and something made sense about the line "And the cost of the blood on the driven snow"

Driven snow is pure. Blood is not. Cost is self-explanatory.
So I believed it to be a reference to a virgin prostitute.

Mind, I thought of this at about 11pm whilst trying to get to sleep, and failing due to the house being too hot.

Two o'clock in the morning, ninety-four degrees...

So yeah. That's that line done.

Nine While Nine was obviously a pre-emptive chronicle of my love life.

Quite accurate for being written 4 years before I was born ;)

you know, i always heard oit as "crust of the blood on the driven snow" - implying that the blood had dried on the snow's surface

it never even occured to me to actially check the real lyrics

is it cost or crust?

It sounds like cost from where I'm sitting. Which would make sense, since it's then a sort of reference to blood money.

</pained attempt not to sound like he's writing in an English exam>

 Maybe you should not think to much about virgin prostitutes when trying to sleep. It surely was heating up your house.

Okay, call me an analytic philosopher and slap me with a wet fish, but is it possible to be a virgin prostitute?

It is possible to restore hymen surgically, and apparently there are places where it is done. In order to boost the price.

And spiritually, apparently, if the born again 'virgins' in the US are anything to go by. But as a general rule, it's probably best to avoid 'virgins' in inverted commas. Much like 'men', 'women', and 'taxi drivers'.
