yes, good timing on my part (I'm still very successfully non-smoking, by the way) but I'm against this anti-smoking legislation.

If I go into a pub I expect other people to smoke, and I'm quite happy for them to do so.

My feelings exactly. I quit smoking, too, and I have to agree that a pub without smokers seems somewhat eerie and unnatural...

I went to Ireland a few times already. Last year was the last time I went, and no smoking was allowed in pubs or restaurants. A lot of locals went on grumbling about this damned rule, but they grudgingly accepted it. Or they went for a smoke in the backyard of their fave pub.

I can understand the smoking ban in restaurants or places where you can eat something in general, but a smoking ban in pubs is something I cannot understand myself. Just stay polite and have some respect for each other, smoker and non-smoker alike.

Everytime I make my mind up to get off this rock, they go and rock my faith in mankind's ability to f**k itself up.

Well done.

I dont mind people smoking in pubs at all - it's to be expected. People do go to pubs to relax after all. If they can't smoke then they might as well just stay at home. As a non-smoker I find it a bit irritating when I go somewhere where my smoking friends can't smoke and they have to go outside and I get left to "mind the table" :( .

However it is nice to *finally* have a boyfriend that doesn't smoke after having previously been out with (and currently living with) several very heavy smokers :D

Tell you what Izzy. The day you change your avatar so you stop looking like that ponce Bono, I'll stop smoking. Can't say fairer than that in front of ( ...has a quick check ...) 869 public witnesses.

Over to you. :innocent:

Smoking. Never done it, never liked it. Always said it was the quickest way a girl could get shot of me. That, or supporting West Ham

So how is it that my current number one target smokes, and it doesn't bother me that much?

I have to add that for me, at least, less smoky pubs would see me using them more. But I've no problem with exercising my freedom to do something else with my evenings.

Maybe I'd be more enthusiastic about smoke-free bars if I had to work in one?

I don't smoke, and never have, but I think that it is the height of incivility to expect people to stand outside to smoke  - particularly outside a pub.

When were pubs ever supposed to be healthy environments - you go there to give your liver a hammering and socialise, so sod the lungs as well

If I had to change my avatar as frequently as you change your ID, my provider would put me on smallband for the rest of my already short life.

So light one up for me, Gandalf, and make me some smoke-boats  *CACKH! CACKH! CACKH!*

Much though I find it hypocritical to enforce such legislation on public houses, I for one will p*ss myself laughing at smokers having to suffer or stand outside to smoke. I get bloody pissed off coming home stinking of smoke everytime I've been at the pub and as most of my friends are non-smokers, I have real problems getting them to go to a pub, mainly because of the smokey atmosphere. If the smoking ban makes a difference, hallelujah! Still, I'm not comfortable with people being told what the can and cannot do on their own property or businesses.

Oh, and if this ban is enforced throughout the UK, I suspect that Eldritch will be one of the ones caught having a fly puff in the toilets when the smoke alarms go off

Now there's a Freudian slip if ever I've seen one.

The main reason I don't go out to pubs with my 'friends' is because none of them smokes. That's why I attend as many Heartland gatherings as I can.

It's always amazed me why any woman would smoke when it ages the skin and makes you smell and taste like an ashtray. But it's a good job some of them do, or I'd still be a virgin.

Since I stopped smoking, I've jumped the ship, big style.

I don't mind smoking in pubs that much, when there is good ventilation.

But I tell you, singing in a smoke filled venue with no air con is hell. It often takes a day or two to clear the system.

I don't mind smoking in pubs - especially if it keeps children out. So if we're to have no smoking pubs, then is it a drive to make them more family-happy places by the government? Maybe they think it's one way to tackle binge drinking. Let's face it, they're mad enough.

Anyone trying to stop me smoking in a pub can kiss the fattest part of my ass.

They can f*ck off. Nanny statism at its worst. They have the health warnings. We know it's bad for us. What are you supposed to do? Just stay at home and smoke there? I won't stand for smokers being made second-class citizens.

It p!sses me off when you get people -- random strangers -- can feel quite happy about stopping you in the street when you're smoking and start pretending to cough and say "don't you know what you're doing to yourself with that filthy habit?" Well, yeah, and I don't care.

I tell you what, I'm going to start hanging round McDonalds and start haranguing people coming out with the same sort of sh!t. "Ooh you disgusting fat slob! Did you not see Supersize me? God the harm you're doing to yourself with that cr@p!"
