While he inadvertently contributed to the creation of certain branches of music that one would rather not be subjected to, there's no doubt that he did a bloody lot for the side of it which is appreciated.

No doubt resting in peace to the sound of a soothing sine wave 8)

The legend is gone. If he'd not been making synths, music today would have been so stale and overused.
