Even stranger, Claire, I've had that very same thought on many occasion - 'isn't he already dead?'. Indeed, I've had long and heated discussions about it.
Porridge is genius
, but it's The Phantom Raspberry Blower Of Old London Town that first made a sizable impression on my 6 yr old mind. I've never really got past that.

Mr. Barker retired from the biz that we call show, a long time ago and was only pulled out of retirement relatively recently for a few specials.

About 10 years ago, a traumatised and straightfaced flatmate knocked on my door and asked me for "the exact truth - IS RONNIE BARKER DEAD?". I was able to put his mind at rest, but am very sad to hear he's finally popped it. Very few people are as funny as Ronnie Barker was, and he could act to boot!

Me too, and I was most pleasantly surprised to find it just as funny over 25 years later. The Phantom Raspberry Blower was actually written by Spike Milligan but it had great (over)acting from Mr Barker and Jack The Ripper references a plenty.

For me it was The Worm That Turned - all those women in PVC, strutting around on peak-time BBC. Maybe I'm giving just
too much away, here - even though I was only about 6, too.
