There have been sharks around of one form or another for about half a billion years. Crocs are relative newcomers at about 200 million years old, and whales are the real baby; less than 50 million years IIRC.

During my trip Down Under in 2002 I went to Kakadu NP (near Darwin) and a German tourist got killed by a croc. Not so far from a place I had a swim myself one day earlier.

Later during that trip I went snorkeling at Upola Cay (near Cairns) and 5 days later a Dutch tourist was attacked and severely wounded by a Hammerhead shark on that same spot.

It is their environment! Nature has my respect!

Have to disagree here mark, just because the shark's been around longer doesn't necessarily make it the superior design, who's to say it's not got long left and the killer whale's got a long future? Leaving aside man's effect that is.

Just as well I watched - not through choice though - shark live or whatever it is on channel five..

I now know that sharks have been around for 400 million years and that their numbers have been halved in the past 15 years..

Well this is what da BBC news sed..

OK, it might not eat Sperm whales but it looks like its up for a ruck!
