Just heard the latest "tune" from Sean Paul. Now, am I getting old or does anyone else out there not understand a f**king word he says?

I presume you're talking about We Be Burnin'?
To be fair he does sing/rap in a heavy Jamaican patois which is very hard for the uninitiated to understand. Many people of Caribbean descent use a similar vocabulary and pronunciation style as a kind of shibboleth, but as far as I'm aware, it's Sean Paul's native language (as it were), being a Jamaican by birth.
I actually quite like the track.

If you think Mr Paul is scary, try the wonderful Harry Toddler, who I'm pretty sure must be indecipherable to most Jamaicans. His cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" with Elephant Man is quite possibly the most ludicrous (and one of the most enjoyable) records I own.

) -not my cuppa char to be honest, though i know what you mean about his voice.
as for the patois, i grew up hearing it all the time in leicester;and although i can understand a fair bit of it ,it's impossible to decipher when you are not supposed to understand it -which is the whole point.
however in normal everyday conversation none of my black friends -all of whom can talk unintelligible patois at the drop of a hat- speak with anything other than their native,local accents.( ie cacky leicester). ignorant non afro-caribbean chavvy-tracksuit types who try and talk in that fake jamaican accent really don't realise how amazingly fucking stupid they sound do they?

Nope, saw the video last night and genuinely tried to understand him. Couldn't. Still don't like. Or Uptown Top Ranking, either

I'm quite proud to say I've never heard of Sean Paul, let alone heard his "song".
