THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.
(I'm sure that this will have been covered before, sorry for that.)
Having watched a couple of MTV Von interviews from summer 91/92, AE seems quite interested in going into the studio and recording the next album in late 91/92.
He also said in the Pukklepop 92 interview, that he wouldn't tour again until here had a least 1 1/2 albums in the can. Bloody good job he didn't keep his word on that!
When did it all go wrong? At what point was there a change of heart? Was it all record company politics?
(Also, how bad were those interview questions? Paul King, what was going through your head?)
Well, around that time the issues with East/West started to crop up and it took them until 1998 to get that sorted out. Problem then became that momentum was lost - despite blistering live shows, Eldritch was lumbered with a stigma of not honouring his contract. The whole record industry had changed anyway while the Sisters became a self-confessed 'saturday by-job' for Andrew. That's why IMHO nothing has been released over the ten years. Not because Adam is holding it up or anything.

Now that adam has "left" to play with MC5, maybe the situation is even more complicated?
Its a shame that Von didn't get into gear around 1998 or 2001. Both these periods seemed to lend themselves to some kind of release. I don't think that there has really been any momentum since then.
I'm pretty sure we'll get at some gig(s) for XXV next February and I'm very much looking forward to that.
As for releases: I've stopped wondering about that a long time ago and as long as I get a few gigs every other year I'm happy.
I seem to remember something about Eldo wanting more publicity for any album that he releases. Of course, even by the late 90s, the aforementioned momentum slowed so much that no major label would
sign The Sisters on Eldo's terms.
I would bet you a large sum of money that Metropolis or some similar label would sign the Sisters in a heartbeat, but then again, they're probably too goth of a label.
But the problem is, I think Eldo wants to start at the top. But the truth is, The Sisters, much as we love them, aren't even remotely close to a top forty band. Hell, they're not even on colelge radio these days.
But then again, I could be wrong. It's just that I seem to recall reading something about that somewhere in an interview.

Can someone maybe dig up that interview i'm thinking of? That is, if I didn't pull it completely out of my ass in the first place?
Something about marketing departments or Label X not wanting to invest as much money in the Sisters as Von think they're worth...
At the same time, you gotta respect the man for sticking to his ground. He's not eager to sell himself out. Not until he gets the complete retirement fund, anyway
Do we have to wait for Bux to put his word forward or can we start getting excited about the Sanctuary album now?
the lazy bastard would have to finish writing it, and then record the bugger first
well...the writing wouldn't take much time.. since they have about 8-10 "new" songs since the last LP...
just hope he takes Chris along to play when they record...he ads more flavor to the songs, the way he plays guitar..
and than we get back to an older thread i think
new cd setlist:
will i dream
slept
come together
war on drugs
romeo down
suzanne
summer
crash and burn
bei mir
...
why don't they bring out an album independantly (like their first singles) purely on the MR label?
if would have released some live shows, seeing how the entire bootleg trade of live shows is going, he would have enough money to do so imho...
i don't sleep, so i don't dream, so i don't wake up frightened...
everything is what it seems, if you look hard enough tonight and see...
Quiff Boy wrote:if sanctuary can make an international-scale comeback for morrisey's last album i'm sure they could handle the sisters quite nicely...
Aren't Sanctuary about to go bankrupt at the moment or something?
The indie single and live recording--brilliant idea, but again, I think that brings us back to the whole marketing thing. Indie implies little to no marketing money, something that Eldo seems to be avoiding.
Otherwise, he could do what a number of bands have been doing of late: recording shows and hawking them over the internet. But I just get the impression that Andy's just not interested in licking stamps for a couple of bob per disc.
I doubt Bei Mir would make an official release on the album front. Andrew's been careful in the past to keep such things on B-Sides, since they're meant to be p*ss takes.
Besides, you know you all want Uptown Top Ranking on the new one
Yeah, well, seeing as how well Sanctuary did for the new Simple Minds album here in US... Morrissey also had a built-in audience of millions. But Sanctuary has released several albums (Ministry & Peter Murphy come to mind) that just simply got NO promotion whatsoever. And hell, Ministry at least sold a few million Psalm 69 albums. The Sisters never got close to that level of sales. At least not of albums, maybe t-shirts, but that's only because ya'll bought 9 apiece.
Putting any kind of cover out gives complications in copyright. Bei Mir could be put out (which is why I put it on that album list) as it is over 30 years old which would mean a minimal fee.
I flagged up Sanctuary (Germany) before to Bux even to the point to providing their address, etc.
However, the reason they are in difficulties is that the retrun on their investment isn't great and their organisation is too bloated.
I'd say Rough Trade who did the Sisterhood record might be the ideal candidate.
They're well-known for paying advances far higher than the actual market value and are generally considered a good pension fund for has-beens. (f.ex: FotN, Motörhead, The Mish)
@Karst: If they make a 1:1 cover, they don't have to ask anybody for permission and they don't have to pay any fee. The correct copyright specification will do.
And: Rough Trade is Sanctuary Records nowadays.
Put their heads on f*cking pikes in front of the venue for all I care.
I think this is the most interesting thread I've read on here in a very long time
"And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere".
~ Peter Steele

& there's the rub- it would choke to be in that company(Motorhead apart).
If he really wanted to make an album it would happen. He knows his way around. But as he's not bothered (face? bothered? face?) it won't happen.
