Playing SHN-files

Well, this is not exactly the right place for it, but I thought I'd have the best chance of getting any answers on here

I just downloaded a show (not by the Sisters, dEUS if you're interested) via a torrent and it seems to be encoded into 'shn' files...

Any clues on how to play these/decode these into proper playable files :?:

A decoder is available for download here-

BTW Is this something like FLAC, and if so, which is 'the best'?

FLAC is a lot better - most flexible and better compression. Most shn (stands for shorten) files are being replaced by FLAC (through foobar). Btw, there is a Winamp plugin that lets you playback .shn files.

More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHN

This is the way to go kids! 8)

Humm Karst how can one be better than the other because they are both losless?

One advantage SHN has over Flasc is that you dont have to be connected to the internet to install the shn front end when you do for flac.

And the FLAC decoder is a whole lot easier to use...

This one apparently works through geeky dos-screens in windows, and I still have not figured out quite how to do it... So up til now I have only converted it into mp3 yet

The FLAC vs. .shn debate has been going on for a while. SOme people don't take .shn anymore because of the playback - but that is few and far in between to be honest. And we're not even throwing .ape in the mix yet! ;)

With dBpoweramp get version r10 because the later versions only give you a limited number of MP3 encodes which sucks. You can update the Lame MP3 codec (3.97) manually so it all stays up to date.

For turning my cds into mp3s I maily use EasyCD-DA... Not too much crap, freedb built in, and quite easy to use...

What more does one need :D
(though I'll try if db can turn the SHNs into wavs, which would mean I'd be able to use the boot as a cd too)
