Great Bands of Leeds

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Just listening to the replay of the Chris Moyles Show coming live from Leeds - did anyone see it? - and in Comedy Dave's famous Tedious Link, where he goes from one song to another through a convoluted series of comparisons, he says Leeds is the home of many great bands, such as The Sisters of Mercy, The M!ssion, Utah Saints, and Embrace (who were playing that day).

So, ye doubters of Moyles, we have a friendly ear on the show!
Not worth putting in Sisters chat, though, for fear of the Wrath of Bux.
This is the second time Dave has mentioned The Sisters. I'm going to bombard the show with requests for ever and a day...

Embrace - Huddersfield (not even close).

And if he failed to mention The Wedding Present, then he's clearly still a c**t. No change there then.
There is increasing evidence to suggest that Chris may have been being sarcastic.

You miserable sod. I've left a messgage on your answer phone. I'll call later and we can see who's the most suicidal. Off to sign on with the dregs of humanity.

He did mention that Embrace are actually from outside Leeds. I wasn't aware, as I've never even heard of this band before.

Don't we all know, as well, that to be recognised in the Land of Fake Jazz Nonsense you have to REALLY make it - or at least ride the coat-tails of success. Hence why some bands you treasure didn't make it onto a three-second list. The Ivories are new, as are Black Wire, and the Kaisers were played later - however, the context of the bands I quoted Dave on were clearly supergroups of some vintage

And although Dave is a perenially miserable git, he is actually the writing and comedy spark behind the CM Show. Clearly not to everyone's tastes, but the man himself - of whom I've always liked more than Moyles - is quite a happy chap.

Well, so would I if I had a BBC wage.

and no Forward Russia, the best band to come out of Leeds in at least 15 years.

This was an utterly pointless post made purely with the intention of saying hello to anyone I don't see any more online since I "blacked out" from you know where...

Woah, hold on. If I assumed where you live and where Scotty lives were the same place, all Scotland, I'd be lucky to escape with all my limbs. I'm not having my thread derailed - well, derailed this badly! - you take that back!

Indeed.

I'm assuming that John's still alive? ;) (Not an assumption I'm making about Birdy as it happens. :urff:)

I'm glad if I can help derail anything pertaining to bloody Chris Moyles.
