There was a programme about '40 years of University Challenge' on telly the other day.
I'm sure I saw Eldritch for a nano second. Does anyone in the know, know if he was ever a contestant?

There was a very amusing photo of Eldo at Oxford in a "before they were famous" type article in Q mag a few years ago: Disturbing curly long hair, suit jacket with Dark side of the moon badge, and yes Aviators (already!)... Did the alleged Von on telly look anything like that?

Sorry I can't remember
??: It was either 92 or 93 (s**t those decades fly by!) But I never owned a copy

92 or 93 sounds very probable.
in 93 they were a top 10 band
so, you say Q?
maybe I have a luck to find it from a library
but I'm not very sure about it.
I don't trust Estonian libraries in this question too much.

Hi RobF
This bloke (from side view) didn't have aviators nor any glasses at all. He had shoulder-length straight, side parted hair and was wearing a really dodgy wide lapelled suit.
It was the nose which I thought I recognised....

I take it that was Eldritch during in his "very bad mid-70s Freddie Mercury look alike" phase. Identical right down to the dodgy teeth.

Hmmm....
I am unconvinced by the vintage of this photo.
I have a video from 1983 featuring the same shades & hair combo. (please don't condemn someone who bears the curse of curls. we can't help it).
He wasn't born with black hair you know!
But I am perplexed by the Freddie Mercury comparison. He did after all have huge teeth. Eye of the beholder I suppose.

If I could work out how to insert a .jpg I would try to find one for comparison. We're talking mid-70s phase really.
My girlfriend says he looks more like Les McQueen from The League of Gentlemen in that photo though.

Awww Bless. That's such a nice photo.
There's nothing dodgy about those teeth. Just because there's not some kind of American, homogeneous, regulation teeth thing going on, it doesn't make them bad. They have character.

Couldn't agree more....
Those teeth that seem to have all been moulded from one piece of slightly too big porcelain & shoved in someone's gob always put me off.
& I thought I was weird until now
