EasyMessage does only what a chat proggie should do. You can chat with it and you can send files with it. You cannot use webcam tho, but I only use it because some people want me to use a chat-proggie from time to time.
And it is quite handy to send huge files around while in a couple of musical projects...
And it is only 240K big...

The only alternative messengers I can think of are Google Talk and Aim, I'm not a fan of Google Talk and I've never tried Aim.
A friend of mine uses Aim for webcam shenanigans though, he says it's quite good.
I really don't know though, because I've never used a webcam. I use instant messaging to trade MP3s.

Does that mean I won't be able to pull faces at you anymore when we're chatting?
