f) who was the 'real' Bax and what was his relationship with Elgar?

Edward Bax, who is a character in the William Gibson short story, Johnny Mnenomic.

He has no specific relationship with Elgar although they do share a first name.

The composer Bax, on the other hand, was called Arnold...

Are you referring to _McCabe and Mrs Miller_?
g) name three 'poems' referenced by Eldritch (and the songs in which they occur) that can be recognised as originating with TS Eliot?
Hah! "The Waste Land" (in Floorshow, Nine While Nine, and a truckload of other pre-Floodland tracks), "The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock" (Amphetamine Logic), "Gerontion" (Mother Russia)

CND.
m) what email addy would one use to get in touch with the sisters?
You wouldn't.
n) who is in the 2006 line-up as it stands now? (hint: not Adam)

a) which publication did this competition's name first appear in and in reference to what?
NME, with reference to a few p*ss-easy questions one of their female hacks asked people at the Sisters convention in London in March 1989.

b) what film did the band's name originate from?
It didn't, it originated from a Leonard Cohen song. However in one of his more pretentious moments I could quite imagine Von saying it's from La Petite Soeur des Pauvres.

c) which actor mentioned the 'merciful release' later used as the label?
Clint Eastwood??

d) which bands was Patricia in previous to the sisters? (hint: four of them)
Gun Club, The Bags, The Sisterhood.

k) where according to rumour did the black hat come from and how much was it?

m) what email addy would one use to get in touch with the sisters?
All complaints, suggestions, fatuous requests and enquiries to devnull (badlydrawnmush@twee.co.uk), because we're not interested. (The word devnull originates from the early days of usenet. It's a killfile and means the emails will be deleted unread.)

n) who is in the 2006 line-up as it stands now? (hint: not Adam)
Von, Robochrist, Doktor Av

o) where does Von allege to write his best songs?
Bars in Hamburg.

p) on what occasion did Eldritch first take his glasses off for the fans?
Leeds Poly 17.2.91. "Nearly Human". Someone said he did the same the night before but I didn't see him do it.

s) one individual only played live with the sisters once back in 1981 who was he and what did he play (not Jon Langford)
Dave Humphries, 2nd guitar, Stafford Bingley Hall 5.9.81.

t) why did Mr Andrew Heartland sell his collection and where did most of it end up?
He sold everything to Robin and became a cricketer for his County (probably not the reason for selling though.)

Blackrose ~ 14/37 :D

Anybody gets more than 33 (coz they’re easy to get) can have a copy of something very special (seeing as it’s Christmas)

You can get in touch with the sisters and it’s not devnull (good try though)

Ok then. The "real" Bax was Andrew Eldritch who used the name 'Edward Bax' when posting to the Dominion mailing list circa 1997. Andrew has said he "spent some time" in Malvern where Elgar also lived.

Whilst the composer Bax was seen by many as the inheritor of Elgar's mantle, it is hard to figure a connection beyond coincidence between him, a borrowed name from a William Gibson novel and the use of that name by Andrew Eldritch.

Having read the Marx interview in GPS, he must have had a Road To Damascus moment to consider working with Von again. Nice thought though.

wasn't Eldo's Dad in the RAF, which meant he got posted all over the place? There is an MOD base in Malvern (where they did alot of work on radar in WWII, formerly RRE, then RSRE, then DERA, currently known as Qinetiq and about to be sold off to the private sector by the Blairite junta).

I also seem to recall reading that his grandparents lived in Malvern. I knew afew Taylor families there, but never noticed any dodgy goth connections with them, but then if he's estranged, why would they advertise it?

Oh, and Elgar lived at Broadwas, which is a village north of Malvern. He was buried at Little Malvern - its a beautiful little medieval church on the east side of the hills overlooking the Severn plain - well worth a visit if you're into that kinda thang!

Exciting and interesting facts, part MCLIXXXXXzzzz..... :?

The hat was given to Andrew by Jeffrey Lee Pierce (and by extension Patricia) of the Gun Club while the Sisters toured with them in 83.

according to eye witnesses from back in the day, the hat came into common use when von had a hair dying accident circa 84. he fried his hair and it all started coming out in huge clumps.

during this period of hair re-growth he had a habit of wearing a baseball cap when around and about town, presumably when situation called for him to be less "dressy"...

see the pics from black planet vid shoot.

k) the hat was purchased in a fancy dress shop.

o) all his best songs are written in the past.

t) sold them to Robin Coleman, lost his obsession with the sisters and published a book about Seigfried Sassoon - A cricketing man.
