It's probably been mentioned before, but:
Tracing
www.thesistersofmercy.com takes one to 213.130.34.78.
If you follow that IP, it takes you to
Overdog Recording Limited.

Yup, noticed that, but feared to mention it in-case someone called me a geek.

You should know by now, the Heartland Geek is called upon frequently, and revered, rather than scorned.

Nope, that's a company based in Santa Barbera called Overdog Records. The Sisters related domains are all registered to:
Overdog Recording Ltd
PO BOX 37
Frances House
Sir Wiliam Place
St Peter Port, Guernsey GY1 4BS
UK

No one should have been expecting any. You don't take a DNS server offline to do page updates. A name not resolving is a technical error, nothing exciting.
Smoke and Mirrors is all well and good, but Von doesn't have the power to stop the domain from resolving, period. Keep your conspiracy theories sensible

So the subscription changed then?
Overdog's site doesn't make much sense to me... Are they a genuine record company? Did they release any relevant things yet?
The WHOIS site google pointed me at told me thesistersofmercy.com is registered to Network Solutions, LLC. Didn't it use to be registered to a certain Andrew Eldritch in the past?

Network Solutions owns the IP block that it's hosted on. You don't generally get helpful information from a WHOIS nowadays, since no-one owns their own address space, they just lease it.

Hmm, overdog's got a message board, I'll try to ask them about the sisters then
EDIT Odd thing I came across: googled "sisters of mercy" "overdog recording", which gave but one hit:
clicky, a site that appears to be generated on 13/06/2004 at 15:18 (scroll down)
Mysteries all over again!

This is all bloody boring. Why not go and search for the domain registered to Andrew Taylor with a Sisters related domain in the contact e-mail addy.
