The Sisters: Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

That comment causes lazy bootleggers to think the gig was in Sweden.

A great song. Only performed live 7 times and only 4 exist as recordings.
I've been hoping for a new cover (or anything new) for this tour but so far we've had sod all.

Hey Joe and Purple Haze are beautiful too.. Stairway to Heaven captures the beauty of the song too, without the overlong, pretensious other 5 minutes...

I don't think Dan comes around here any more.

Like he says though, Gimme Gimme Gimme is only on 4 recordings: 7 April 84 Birmingham, 13 April 84 NYC, 15 April 84 Chicago and 16 April 84 Detroit.

Off-hand I can't remember which one has the "OK Swedes" line but I'm pretty sure it's one of the USA dates.

Yeah 'Gimme' was groovy and probably a nod back to the early days of the Phono in Leeds. Loved the versions of 'Comfortably Numb' too, but that is maybe the old paisley shirt and bangle hippy in me coming out.

I played this at my clubnight last month. I'm sorry to say Posh Burd didn't even recognise it until halfway through. ;)

Totally agree, one of the best Sisters covers ever!

But I've always thought the NYC version was the only one recorded (I have it on an old 7" bootleg I bought back in the day). What's the sound quality like on the other three versions? Any better?

It'd be great to hear them. Anyone have a nice little FLAC Zip archive of these to share?

Probly the New York one above.

The version on Birmingham 7/Apr/84 is pretty good too IIRC. ANd I don't recall having listened to either of the others (even though I have them )
