Spam Members Alert!

For you to give feedback to the Heartland moderators. Wish lists, fault reports, etc. You may get an answer, you may not. As in all things, it largely depends on how nicely you ask the people in charge... You're welcome.

Thanks 8)

First jobs for mods when logging onto HL:
  1. Check the memberlist for new members since the last lot were banned
  2. Click "view posts since last visit" and check them all...
  3. then I can start posting gibberish ;)

I think that we can trim out much of this thread. Thanks for your help in hunting them down. If anyone comes across an older spammer which we overlooked, just let us know here. If the user profile has banned as the location, we have found them already; they simply are not purged from the database yet.

There are also possble double posters listed in this thread. Do any of them want to have one of the usernames deleted as well?

that James Blast has far too many post counts, I'd bump him...

... eh... no don't, I had another 'senior moment' there

I found only two others in the period 2002-2005:

linethai -- bogus link in foreign lingo ;)
Exael -- ringtones and wallpapers

...and this concludes my actions.

That's the tricky part, of course...;)

One of the criteria I use is: is the Profile Name sisters-related? In this case, actually, it IS ;D 'Exael' is just a different way of saying 'Exile'...

But far more important is: no personal email? CHECK. Zero or one post count? CHECK. Website leads to obvious commercial or pornographic material? CHECK.

When they posted, I always check some of their posts, even if it is only one. When it says something like 'yes! I was there too! Awesome comcert!' they are off the spam list...

Not foolproof, as you see

Definitely not. You have earned several merits to allow an occasional slip up. :notworthy:

Of course nobody has ever contacted us with a confused message to ask why they have been banned. :innocent:

I think that we have dealt with all the suspects from this thread already. With the Mod race thread, we sort of have two threads for the same thing. Any objections if we lock (and eventually bin) this one? Maybe move the other one to the Feedback section?
