Reminiscences split from the James Ray thread

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Hey Quiff Boy, you new Catomeat?? You remember Demeter Falls or Tommy Redemer and the Redemptionets? I'm guessing you were a bansheeite, you may even remember Last Rites, the band that nobody ever saw until after they split up.

I remember going to the James Ray gig that was at Underworld (Jilly's) back in 95 or 96 I think. I remember some strange guy wearing a flashing hat, and James did Psychodalek 3 times "cos its a fuckin good song"

nope. he's talking about the manchester goth scene, circa 1991, so i assume there must have been another band around manc at that time called last rites... which would have been well before nod's lot branched off from the neph.

no idea what he means by "the band that nobody ever saw until after they split up" :? maybe it was one of those "we're in a band... what? a gig? no not yet..." scenarios, and they split up before actually doing anything :?:

Alright yo, amazing what you can pick up when trying to trace the 11 grand you're owed for a mini on google (read mini as an mg nicked by some german c**t).

Anyway, ello quiff boy, I'm assuming I must know you. Chris from Ketamine ere. We did indeed turn into a ropey big beat outfit a la Bentleys circa late 90's, then we split up due to musical differences (I wanted to make massive bass noises, Tom wanted to soundlike the Wonderstuff....), and I went off running Fuse (6th best Breakbeat night in the world according to Radio 1) and Fusetrax (best Breakbeat label in the world according to me). Feel free to check us out at www.fusetrax.co.uk. We always had an odd sense of humour, as noted, but maybe now the Poppies have reformed it'll make more sense in retrospect?

I now happily fill my time being a journalist and doing the above mentioned music stuff. James Ray, for the record, was a wanker.

Big love yo.

Barry, your name rings a bell, just cant put a face to it. I was old bansheeite (Oxford Road and then Piccadilly) I had the Christian Death jacket, not hard to remember, there was only me and Berni (the rather tasty lady) who had them.

On the subject of Mr Ray, I have just got a signed copy (thank you JR) of Everywhere is a strange part of somewhere by James Ray and the Longfolk.

Its really fuckin good!! Not at all like any previous JR stuff, but really well done. Also had a quick view of 4080 the other day, and I think the term strange would cover it. Will sit down soon and watch all the way thru.

:o

christian death jacket? cant have been many of them around... :notworthy:

i used to know a guy that had the sleeve of CD's "sex, drugs & jesus christ" on his, and a chap called craig from saddleworth that i think also had the CD "cross and crossbones" logo on (he's also a mate of our very own markfiend!)

where were you from? studentland? south manc? rochdale? :)

i'm "original banshee" & "piccadilly banshee". used to be mates with fred & alison, filthy phil from carbonize, chris from ketamine (who's actually on here as "catomeat"), donna, alan (aka marc almond), "little" dave from prestwich, dave's mate simon, and a few others. 8)

towards the end of the original banshee i also get mates with a few people from rochdale - jo & mark, jo's sister deb (the lass in the photo above), jo & stuart from littleborough...

lots of good folk :notworthy:

my original leather during the "banshee 1" days had the artwork for the alice 12" painted on the back, but that got knicked towards the end of the venue, so i got one and had this painted on the back (courtesy of the aforementioned fred):

That picture did the trick, yup know who you are now, and with one of the delightful sisters too. When you say little Dave from Prestwich, do you mean Dave Gurr?

I remember most of the people you mentioned there. You remember Simon and/or the Demeter Falls gang?

I was never a student, I was a proffesional goth!!! haha

One of the stockport gang, usually found huddled around the pool table, particularly at Piccadilly, or snearing at the new intake of students for any particular year.

Sh!t I've just realised -- I know Dave from Prestwich and his mate Simon too (at least vaguely). They came over to Leeds (The Phono) a few times in the couple of years after I moved here in '90.

In fact, IIRC wasn't Dave actually from Whitefield, just a bit further out from Manchester than Prestwich?

I did the Banshee pretty much weekly during the summer of '88. QB tells me there's a Banshee Legend about me and my then-girlfriend...

whitefield! yes! thats the fella. demeter falls. little dave we used to call him. or wavey davey. coz of his strange wavey back-combed hair... used to dance backwards in a circle... 8)

stockport? so did you know lisa bradbury? from bredbury () ?

what about dave & simon's mate, a girl called marcelle? she had a white dave vanian/bride of frankenstein stripe through her hair. spotted her doing the makeup on the first series of "most haunted" a couple of years ago too

ahhhh *wistful look*

Thinking on, it was probably the summer of 1990, not 88.

My memory is shot. I'd probably remember 3/4 of these people by sight but I am so sh!t with names.
