Re: Lucretia

I was watching a video about TSOM’s Lucretia. The commentator went into great detail about how well the lyrics matched the music—the genius of those lyrics and the numerous elegant “hooks” in the song itself. Then suddenly, he went off on a tangent. He said that Andrew Eldritch, for all his bravado,...

Life on Earth

This is a test.
It is only a test.
If this had been a real Life,
you would have been told
where to go and what to do.

Oops.
I’m told there are clues to
the test found in those outdated
items known as . . .

Books.

Re: Angela Creffield - RIP

Ravey, Even though I don’t know either of you, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Remember, Angela will watch over you always. She is in a beautiful and a happy place now, all her questions answered, all her pain and fear gone. There is a Heaven. There is a God. And the white light is absolutely ...

Re: 2024-06-13. Nova Rock Festival, Nickelsdorf AT

That group photo does seem strange, blurry and somber, as though it has been manipulated. And why go on tour if you don’t want to? There’s certainly more than enough money to go around. As for Master & Servant, that’s a helluva lot better than Mommy Dearest. At least you can switch places. Um, y...

Re: How do you guys feel about...

Imagine. A sweet little music shop in the middle of nowhere called, appropriately, “ B-Side Records.” That’s where I found my Sisters vinyl and CDs. The owner, who hired two hippies turned techno to help out there, is equally sweet and has a veritable encyclopedic knowledge of rock ‘n roll. It’s a g...

Oxford strikes again!

Got “rizz”? That’s the new Word of the Year for 2023, gratis Oxford Languages. People in their 20s (or younger) say it a lot. A lot. This new slang term means the ability to easily attract one’s romantic/sexual partners. Rizz is short for charisma. And yes, Von has major rizz. I’m sure you can think...

Re: On the Beach

I’ve always understood “the boondocks” to be rural. Meaning totally nowheresville. One dictionary states that it’s “rough country with dense brush.” This, as opposed to “boonies,” which is military.

Re: Kai as a permanent member

With that list of former members, it’s clear who owns the band, lock, stock and barrel. It’s sad to see what happened to Dylan; but in a way, Dylan had to know what he was getting into from the start. Most of these young men would do anything to get decent rock ‘n roll cred to advance their careers....

Good point. Look at the bright side, though. At least the article stated, “sharing a flat with a girl,” which is certainly far better than “sharing a flat with a bird.” (!)

Re: Interview with Chris Catalyst November 2023

Depends on the musician(s). In this case, I was referring to rock stars specifically. This is how the category of “nostalgia” or “reunion touring” came into being. Rock and roll used to be mostly a young man’s game (there are a few exceptions). Now, a lot of older bands retire and then reverse that ...

Re: Interview with Chris Catalyst November 2023

Hmm. It seems that there are a lot of “older” rock stars on tour these days. Is there a dearth of talent in the younger generations or are older generations just hogging space and time? Kinda like boxers who refuse to quit boxing until they’re damn well dead?

Re: "He's not been well"

Losing a guitarist in just that way had to be tough. Fortunately, Ben and Kai work together, so it was easy to close the gap. In gigs since the time Dylan left, the band seems more relaxed and content.

Re: Happy early Halloween!

The “Halloween” theme (1978) has the same persistence that the “Jaws” one (1975) does. You hear it, and you know exactly what it means, no explanation needed. John Carpenter said that there wasn’t much of a budget for a soundtrack. In this case, that was a very good thing.

Re: On the Beach

The goth subculture will always exist in one form or another, so it’ll just go along its merry way, like all others. What’s interesting, though, is that Eldritch said something in an earlier interview about creating a “United States of Europe,” a kind of federalist approach not currently on the dock...
