Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a “reasonable digital camera please?

Any recommendations gratefully received

I'm no photographer but I recently got a Canon Powershot A200, it's pretty basic but does what I want it to.

Good Points:
Pretty Cheap
Takes Compact Flash Memory, so also cheap
Runs on 2 AA batteries, if you get rechargables it's fine.

Bad Points:
No Opitcal Zoom, and digital zoom is pretty useless in general.

Check out http://www.powershot.com for more details.
Check out the photos I've taken with it here: http://www.lak.co.za/galleries (some of the World of Birds photos were taken with my friends A20)

give me a few weeks, I'll be down at the beach with my camera, wishing I had a better zoom lens.

That is a different World Of Birds.

I'm a fan of the Fujifilm FinePix. You can get it for a decent price and it's got a nice big viewfinder, and a good (6x) optical zoom. The only drawback is it's a bit of a chunky mutha.

i'm currently leaning heavily towards buying an olympus c-220 digital camera. seems to do all the usual stuff quite nicely.

£200 - just about within my price range - i only want a camera not the ultimate in photography!

comes with an 8mb memory card but will buy an additional 64mb one to be going on with...

anyone know a good camera reviews website? or forum?

I went to this site when buying my camera: http://www.dpreview.com/

For the 220: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare ... sidebyside

Quif - 64 megs is OK, but 128 is better. I find I can easily use half my 128 meg flash RAM on a good weekend. I take photos at the highest res and lowest compression and manage about 129 photos.

Also remember to get those NiMH batteries and a charger. Going through alkalines every few seconds isn't good.

already got a set of NiMH batteries...

128mb you say? hmmm, bumps up the price a little, but i guess in the long term its worth it eh?

cheers! :von:

Seeing as this is a sort of 'Which' guide, has anyone come into contact with, used the new 'tablets'. I've got to decide whether our school should go this way forwards...or the old 'new way forwards' i.e. more lap tops.

I do think the tablets look kinda groovy and it means kids who's typing skills are poop can at least get their ideas down in script.

ANyone help?

Quif- Memory: I guess it all depends on how much the memory costs. For me a 128 meg card cost less than two 64 meg cards. Also my camera uses Compact Flash memory which, at least here, is cheaper than other types of flash memory so I could get 128 for relatively cheap.

Debs- I personally would go for laptops, mainly because tablets are still brand new and haven't made it into the mainstream yet (and may never).

Now, if anyone could give me assistance in getting my crappy TV card (Flyvideo 3000) running under Mandrake 9...

I have a Olympus Z-720 super zoom.
3.0 megapixles, 24x zoom.

It`s new to me, but I really like it.
