The Cult

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

after watching tha southern death cult on dvd last night and remembering what the cult were like the last time i saw them, at the nec (ceremony-ish time), i dread to think to what depths of musical predictability they may now have sunk... :urff:

not that i'd mind seeing them if they played this side of the pond. 8)
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

You'd have to, wouldn't you. Last time I saw 'em, 95ish (The Sheep Album Tour, or whatever it was called), was probably the best, tbh. A certain 'Sound Of The Sisters' on bass too. 8)

a friend of a friend who works at the manchester academy said in november that he was sure he saw the cult down as having booked the venue for sometime this year (the first half of it) :?

As much as I love the various incarnations between 82-86, I don't think I could attend a gig by them now.

The three albums that followed Love were shocking cock rock, which can never be forgiven.

I watched one of the 85 gigs recently, and they were really cooking at that point.
Give me one good reason

Love The Cult, love all the LP's, given the choice I think I'd go and see them before I'd go and see the Sisters.

I'd pay upto £25 (not including the fuggin booking fees, the postage and packing, the just a couple of quid more to REALLY p e e off the customer' fees) just to hear the intro to She Sells and the whole of Spiritwalker...naturally they ought to throw in Horse Nation + Fatman, just to be polite.....

I'd like to see them if they played over here. Probably too skint though as ever.

Indeed! 8)

I don't like the direction they took from "Ceremony" onwards - you're not Primal Scream, and please, for the love of God, why would you want to be Nirvana? :urff:

And the shearing of Ian Astbury's lovely locks was on a par with Samson, IMHO  . He's another one who wants to lay off the pies fur a bit. Fatman? Aye! Sort it aaaaaaaaarrrrrrt!

BUT. It's still the Cult. Ergo, if they book it, I will come. What I would give though, to time-travel back to the Dreamtime days and see them then... *sigh*

Teleport yourself to this gig and you could hear me scream for "old" Sisters songs during the set of the support band... a dodgy darkling outfit called Sisterhood.... ;D

Image

P.S. Astbury was a hotie, although when I re-read my daft diary entry of said gig, I thought back then he was waaaay too much flower-power for my likings. I realised later how wrong I was.

Fab story Jess. Heckling the m*****n should be a national sport. In which case shouting for Old Sisters is gold medal work. :notworthy:

Somewhat underwhelmingly, I could only manage basic obscenities at Eurorock 2000. Accurate, but basic.

Dave, you clearly overestimate the music nerdness (<voc?) of a 15-year old girl. I thought this was the sisters with a new name. I had no clue that they splitted in two halfs, with one performing and one releasing. (sounds odd anyway, doesnt it? ;D )

Well - I liked "Electric" and "Sonic Temple", but "Ceremony" is really rubbish.
The last two albums were quite good btw.
