It Was Twenty-One Years Ago Today....

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

...that i heard The Sisters Of Mercy for the first time. :von:

I was at a valentine's day disco for our school orchestra and my mate stuart played a tape of Temple Of Love.
i loved it. by the end of the week i'd bought it. and here i am twenty years on getting as excited as a teenager at the thought of seeing them play again.

So happy valentine's day to the sisters -the longest and least-difficult love of my life. :notworthy:  :notworthy:

i was going to call this thread "valentine" but i know what reaction that would have received....indeed.
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

Good call Lee.

21 years though... FFS! I feel like such a phoney now, having only been into them for 8 years. I bow to your superior fandom. :notworthy:

Now I just feel old - thanks, people
22 years ago...sister had a boyfriend...who had FALAA...who broke up with her...who threw out all the vinyl that he had given her...whence it was swiped by her annoying little brother...who started wearing black...who painted "amphetamine logic" on his bedroom wall because he thought it was a good idea...whose parents then sat him down and had a Long Hard Chat about drugs.

Nice topic! :notworthy:

21 years on the first of May. Someone at school had this tape of this band. The person asked me to listen to it. He said that almost every person he asked disliked it but he had a feeling that I just might like it.

The first song was Emma, the second one Marian. Could not get it out of my head and bought FALAA the day after.

Almost 21 years later, after lots of ups and lots of downs in personal life, the Sisters are still there..... and are starting a tour with over 50 gigs! :D

Happy valentine.....

Indeed nice thread Lee :notworthy:

It wasn't twenty one years ago for me but nineteen years ago that I heard The Sisters of Mercy for the first time. The very early teenage years where indeed I started wearing black and had to sneak out the house to GO OUT. My best friend who is originally from the UK introduced me although I can't remember for the life of me on what day it was....

All I know is that she is still my best friend and I still love The Sisters of Mercy, will until the day I die.

Now I'll go put on VALENTINE 8)

19 years ago for me too - the release of Dominion. Strange how one song by a man with a dodgy beard can quickly grow into a lifetime obsession! :notworthy: 8)

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's 19 years this year for me. But I've no idea what the date was. Although having researched, it must have been some time between June 1987 and September 1987. Because The Mi$$ion's First Chapter was out but none of the Floodland-era singles were.

I do remember it was a biology lesson in which Dunc gave me the copy of FALAA that his brother had copied for me if that's any help

I'd guess it was just before the summer holidays then. 8)

Yep, 21 years.  :notworthy: My brothers tape of FALAA on the stereo as he ferried me round Tameside in his first car. Never looked back. :von:

What's all this Valentine's nonsense everyone's on about?

Whoa  :notworthy:

Makes me feel quite stupid as I don't even have the slightest clue when I heard them first, and even less of when I really 'got into them'

i know WHERE it was.. Jaret's house, in either the easter or summer hols, so i must have been about 16/17. any later than that and the other people present wouldn't have been there, and the year after, i'd moved to just round the corner

Ooh, yes, where I might know. Probably as I was bathing in the morning somewhere before school. Temple of Love being a song which gets airplay every now and then around here...

A lot of us have been listening to The Sisters for longer than some of the lovely people on here have been alive.
