Meeting the band?

Does the band ever come out after the shows to meet fans/sign autographs, etc? My friends and I usually wait outside to meet bands and I was wondering if it's gonna be a lost cause(A Perfect Circle

)

edit: At least its a lost cause if you wanna speak to Eldritch. It looks like the new guys are a bit more approachable.

good question. in 1991 we waited about an hour outside the club in DC, and Andy rushed right by us. the exchage:

me: have you got a second?

: literally, yes.

and on the bus he went.

and my friend was standing aside of me with her Damage Done 7" sleeve, hoping for a sig. some other chickie got her leather jacket signed by

before he made it to us.

i realized that day how incredibly tiny & waifish

is. a Drow, if you will.

What did you expect to find?

Don't go for the guy - go for the content, the threat & the beer (just my opinion of course)

There were pics of Mr. E in his 'slap head/beard/string vest days, outside Joseph's Well on a hot August day last year.
Some didn't guess it was h to he who am the only one, others were more respectful and let him be.

In 1999 I waited outside the 9:30 club after the show for what seemed like days. When they cut to the bus I went bat out'a hell after them. Only to get this big shaved headed dude standing roadblock between me and the open bus doors. I could see Von standing in there so I got right up in the guys grill whipped out a sharpie and the set list I had retrieved from the stage that night and said in my most humble voice "Could Mr. Elderich sign this please". The few people left outside the venue took a powder as he grabbed the set list out of my hand, made a grunting sound and walked into the bus. I stood by patiently watching him gesture to Andy.
At this point they could have just closed the bus doors and I'd a been outta luckbut he signed it. The guy brought it out to me. I said thanks, he grunted again an we all called it a night. I have it framed with ticket stub and other interesting
collectibles.

Going back to Joseph's Well last year (I was one of the ones that let him be, apart from a hello at the bar).

My old man was thinking about coming but finished work too late. He told me on the phone that he walked past the venue on the way to get his car & asked a small bald bearded bloke if he knew what time it was starting. He said the small bald bearded bloke was nice & chatty & that he looked like an unwell Eldritch. He was happy when I told him it was! So, sometimes I'm sure he can be an arse but other times he seems ok. You know what I mean, I think.

Ace story - a rather unwell Von - sounds about right, some of the US pics are definitely the wrong side of 'heroin chic'.

By the time I left you'd jumped on a spaceship & set off for another galaxy I think.

I had work in the morning & I was becoming increasingley p*ssed (thanks to your wallet) so I did one before

came out. Which in hindsight was a tad annoying to say the least.
I spent a bit of time talking to Chris & licking Adam's arse. I even asked Adam for permission to cover Crash & Burn & he said yes!!! We still haven't done it though.

after the Sisters show in Bristol on the last UK tour (Smoke & Mirrors) I had a setlist given to me by a stage hand. As we walked out of the venue into a balmy Summer evening I bumped into Chris Starling and Adam Pearson (The Legendary Mr Whammy) and got both to sign it. The tour bus was out front too and I waited a few moments for Von and his signature but I never saw him. I felt a prize berk getting them to sign a tatty but of paper with the gaffer tape still stuck to it, but in hindsight with the pair of them no longer in the Sisters its a bit of history now. Probably worth 50p on eBay

My mate said he saw Von by the entrance in the Blank Canvas on the same tour. And stood next to him was a very Big Bloke.

I was there too but I didn't seen him in the crowds. If you keep your eyes open you'll spot the others before the show in the crowd, same with NMA.

My two cent... I ran into the band members in Leeds, 2003. First night, Von rushed past me during the aftershow party. I've only said "Nice show", he went by and just raised his hand.

Second night, I had a very brief chat with Adam and Chris... they signed my ticket, and I remember asking Chris if he's glad that the tour is over. He said yes. Hmmm, this was his last gig...

But: I know someone who met Eldritch on the loo in Leeds and called him Andy.

Though that's not that spectacular...

Of course I'm in no position (yet) to play judge and all...

But I can easily understand that one night you feel up to talking, chatting and signing with/for your fans and another night you just want to go to your hotel room and get some sleep.

The 'stars' are people just like you and me, with the only exception that some can wipe their arses with a 500 euro note instead of cheap Scottex paper.

All the small and large gigs I did in my life (which will go up to a hundred with all the various bands/projects I've been in) always involved talking to some people afterwards and even signing some CD's (I even had the nice opportunity to sign a very luverly 20-years-old chica's belly

). And well, some nights that is really nice, but when you had a s**t gig with crap people behind the mixing desk and some arseholes in front of you throwing boo's and booze at you, you are inclined to walk straight off the podium into the backstage/beer cellar/whatever. Those people who loved your performance and are waiting for you is the least you think about, sadly enough

Now do this times a hundred (for gigs as well as attendants) and I can understand the attitude of certain musicians.

i'd say that getting blown off by Eldritch is probably as good or better than actually getting him to talk to you!

even as one person said, a simple raise of the hand as a gesture. coolness.

What is the correct form of address in these circumstances? For example, if you're pointing percy at the porcelain and realise that you're standing next to

Clearly asking for an autograph in these circumstances is fraught with peril - you may find that he writes his name on your jeans using something other than a pen...
