..ok, I know I'm a Newbie on this forum, but that doesn't stop me from asking the following:
The Independant Artists Community is currently running a Song of the Year contest. One of the entrants is Pete Townshend and Rachel Fuller. At the moment they're up against a band by the name of Back Bone Shiver.
Back Bone Shiver are truely indy.
Back Bone Shiver are from Manchester.
Pete and Rachel have entered a cover version.
Back Bone Shiver have entered an original song.
Rachel Fuller and Pete are using name-recognition in order to win. This makes the playing field distinctly uneven.
What I'm asking for is for as many of you folks as possible to go and vote. Listen to both songs and decide which one you think/feel is better.
I would hasten to add that I have no connection whatsoever with Back Bone Shiver. For me, this is a matter of principal.
In order to vote you'll be asked for your email. This is purely to keep the voting to one-person-one-vote.
You'll probably find the confirmation email from IAC in the junk/spam whatever folder.
The link you need to vote is:
http://www.indienetunes.com/beatpete.htm
Thanks in advance and see you (probably) in Leeds and Manchester.
Matthew Syberberg/The Hated Reign.
Looking for assistance...

I like it when Pete Townsend does that crazy arm waving geetar playing thang. Do Back Bone Shiver do that better than he does?

Personally...it's not evident on this rather lack-lustre cover.Badlander wrote:Fine but you gotta admit that Pete Townshend is a helluva artist.

Personally...no, I don't think Pete is all that remarkable. Particularly when compared with The Sisters.
I did give both songs a listen to and, even though the Back Bone Shiver song isn't what I'd usually listen to, it's a damn sight better than the song Pete and Rachel have entered.

But why should we care Syberberg? (And that's not a dig by the way, just genuinely wondered why you care?)

No worries, didn't take it as a dig. I can be just as direct...probably something to do with coming from north of the M62.Hom_Corleone wrote:But why should we care Syberberg? (And that's not a dig by the way, just genuinely wondered why you care?)
Simple answer...I'm an indy artist. I have nothing personal against Pete or Rachel. I just don't think they should be in the same contest as a complete unknown.
I'd feel the same if it was The Sisters doing this. Particularly if the effort was a poor as Rachel's and Pete's (which of course it wouldn't be).
Have a look around at IAC and see what you find. You never know, you might even find a band or two that you like.
As for posting here...well, curiosity got the better of me there. I was interested to see what the general public (for want of a better phrase) thought of it all as opposed to what the indy-musos/songwriters thought.

What one thinks is of little importance here. You're talking about the history of rock'n'roll. You gotta show some respect.Syberberg wrote: Personally...no, I don't think Pete is all that remarkable. Particularly when compared with The Sisters.

We're talking the 2 disc'er of Live of Leeds this includes Tommy performed in it's entirenty in between A Quick one and Summer Time Blues from the orignal release.
FOOKING GENIUS ! Roger became a legend a that night as did The Who and it remains truly as the definitive live album missed notes and all.
I'd argue Von and Townsend have a LOT more in common then what most would perceive. He hears "the music" the same as Andrew does.

Unfortunately it's something many people won't admit, simply because it's not obvious enough. Or just because the Who ain't "dark enough".spot778 wrote: I'd argue Von and Townsend have a LOT more in common then what most would perceive. He hears "the music" the same as Andrew does.
EDIT : Does that mean is just as deaf now as Townshend ?

The only member of The Who I respect is Keith Moon.Badlander wrote:What one thinks is of little importance here. You're talking about the history of rock'n'roll.
