Sorry to disagree, but this one I didn't like much. I guess it's for modern oriental movies fanatics. I didn't like this sort of glorification of violence. And it's gloooooomy.Lynchfanatic wrote: Oldboy

When it comes to violence, Scorsese is da man.

Speaking of oriental... Do you like THIS sort of glorification of violence, then? (seeing you seem to like the Troma Team movies).Badlander wrote:Sorry to disagree, but this one I didn't like much. Never heard of. I guess the difference between a movie like Old Boy and Troma is that Troma flix are utterly, totally weird, mad, funny, crazy, deranged, loco, etc.Izzy HaveMercy wrote: Speaking of oriental... It's the apparent lack of humour or even second degree in Old Boy I found unpleasant and unsettling.

Ah, then that Tetsuo movie will go down smoothly. It's about as weird and deranged as it comes, IMOBadlander wrote:Never heard of. May I recommend Videodrome? The greatest surrealistic movie ever made.
EDIT: I used to like Troma movies when I was twelve. I dunno why, but I began to utterly detest them. I always see them as cheapening the audience and having nothing to offer but transvestites chewing on phallic pieces of jelly.

Once in a while is okay. Also, you can't take them at first degree. You OD quite easy with that kinda stuff, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy them. I certainly wouldn't watch Troma flix when I was 12.EDIT: I used to like Troma movies when I was twelve. I dunno why, but I began to utterly detest them. Hollywood sunrise was nice and pretty loony.
Sean Penn is a real nice guy and a true democrat, which is always a bonus.

A friend of mine was over in New York recently and went out for a smoke and Sean Penn was there smoking too. He got talking to him and found out how long he was staying etc...and was suprised not to see him again.
Then he saw the news the next day that Chris had died.

Didn't know. The news hadn't crossed the Atlantic (or the Channel, depending on where you're standing at).emilystrange wrote:chris penn
I didn't see Irréversible. I trust your good judgement, but I must say I'm not a fan of Monica Bellucci. She's not the smartest actress I've ever seen and I find her a bit plastic.
Charlize Theron gets more credit in my book.
Monster had quite an effect on me.

Videodrome is a hidden gem, as is a lot of David Cronenberg’s movies.Badlander wrote:Are we talking recent movies or hidden gems ? Just to know what kind of thread we want.nick the stripper wrote:May I recommend Videodrome? The greatest surrealistic movie ever made.
If you like hand melded cancer guns, men with vagina dentate style orifices in their stomachs, television caused hallucinations, conspiracy theories, and media prophecies, then you’ll love Videodrome.
I highly recommend the following movies from David Cronenberg - the master of body horror's Oeuvre:
- Videodrome
- Shivers
- The Brood
- Scanners
- Crash
- Naked Lunch
- Dead Ringers
- The Brood

If you like gloomy, try this forgotten classic
