Hi Guys!
Thanks for the picture links There are some very cool scans of the singles/album covers here - http://members.fortunecity.com/sompromo/singles.html
Just click on the pics to see all the demo covers/acetates, etc. Anyone want to see how much Damage Done cost to get mastered? - http://members.fortunecity.com/sompromo ... nvoice.jpg

It's a common misconception. It's even in the FAQ.pikkrong wrote:true.mugabe wrote: The Bacon painting on the "Body Electric" sleeve is Head VI, not Study after Velazquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X.

I could be talking bollocks....
but...
I was under the impression that "The Reptile House EP" was ripped off of The Rolling Stones? I used to have that Sisters scrapbook years ago and remember reading about it in there? Can anyone confirm this?

rumour has it that the "temple..." artwork might actually be one of andrew's own pieces of work.
in the early days gary and andrew spent a lot of time sat in leeds' central art gallery looking through classical art books for ideas for record sleeves. (in the VERY early days they also spent time pouring over typography books looking for the perfect font to use... the sisters nearly ended up using some germanic stencil font! )
as i'm sure you all know, alice uses matisse' "blue nude" as the basis, over which andrew hand-illustrated some klimpt-style lines and patterns. this adaptation of classical art was something of a theme during the sisters v1 days - body electric, body and soul, etc etc
but apparently, for "temple..." andrew was getting a bit cocky, and decided he'd have a go himself at doing a sleeve from scratch.
or so the rumour goes.
'twas all a long time ago after all, and people's recollections about such stuff can get coloured and/or hazy with time...
quite why he credited it to "a friend from manchester" or whatever, one can only guess at. maybe he wasnt as confident in his abilities after he'd done it. a bit of self-doubt maybe a la that whole nanker & pledge vs jagger & richards thing

Imagine Von starting SOM today, with a PC and some software and burning his own discs to release and....
Nevermind--it could only have started in Leeds, 1980, above the chemist, with a 3 watt practice amp and a really bad drummer...
