PUBS

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

A girlfriend of an old college mate once got asked for ID - she was 25 at the time!

My sister gets asked if she wants to pay half fare on buses, etc. She's older than me!

I love pubs.

Especially in the winters. There's nothing like sitting at a pub, a scottish pub preferbly, on a december night, having a few ales and watching snowflakes gracefully and silently dance on the other side of a painted window glass. Love it.

I love bars too. I enjoy hotel bars a lot.

This post sums up neatly everything that is great about social drinking.

I just meant "Social" as in "not sat at home watching The Bill whilst drinking yourself mad on Shiraz*". I too enjoy hotel bars a great deal, but the description of the Scottish pub was great!
Made me wish it was December!

Hotel bars are great

Especially if they've got vast leather armchairs

And a barman that keeps the bar open and then wraps a blanket round you as you fall into a stupor......

Had several of the former (not in the biblical sense of course) none of the latter. Have always managed to drag myself back to my room.

my wife said that she always bought alcohol and cigarettes without problems when she wasn't 20 but a couple of years ago (she's 30 now) a seller didn't want to sell her cigarettes because she's too young ;D

Just this weekend I was introduced to The Lion, in Castleford. Now as a rule Cas is strictly no-go, a grim pit inhabited by vagabonds, kinda like an annex of Liverpool. HOWEVER, The Lion is the finest rock pub I've been in for a great many years, comparable with the one in Manchester off Oxford Rd (help me out Reverb, you know the one, down the cobbled street under t' Oxford Rd station- ace place). Ooops, gotta go save lives, pubs rock!

It's called The Salisbury - always good for a jar or 3 before gigs at the Academy or the Uni - was in there the other week before the Sisters gig in fact. :)
