i just got a recording of the said gig with Sister Ray at the end. It's a transfer from a tape that was bought somewhere after the gig. But the funny thing is it has Sister Ray after Adrenochrome, and i've never seen it listed anywhere.
Can't offhand recognise if it's a version from some other gig, but must also say the sound is similar to the rest of the gig. And before anyone asks, there's a cut in the recording before the song.
So, any authoritative thoughts that SR was not played, or that it was played?
At any rate, the recording is obviously up for trade for meaningful offers The sound is naturally very good, low gen and all that.
Brighton 22.10.84 Sister Ray?

this started with sunset yellow was it, i forget now, a guy from greece anyway
i know a second gen of this and it doesn't have SR. i think i decided not to trade as it didn't have an audit trail to source and was therefore probably bogus

Hmm, no. This is from someone not associated to this forum at all...he told me he bought the tape from some fair sometime after the gig, and actually he only had, as far as Sisters recordings go, only this and Brighton -85 tape, both of which he'd bought from the same place in the 80s. So i don't think this originated with sunset yellow.
Also having listened through the recording today, must say there's no difference to the dynamics of the sound at all between the Sister Ray and rest of the gig.

Heres the track list i have for the gig (taken from the-happening's site if i recall rightly:
22.10.84 BRIGHTON, TOP RANK
Burn, Heartland, Marian, Walk Away, Body & Soul, No Time To Cry, Anaconda, Emma, A Rock And A Hard Place, Train, Floorshow, Alice, Body Electric, Gimme Shelter, Knocking On Heavens Door, Adrenochrome
No mention of Sister Ray at all
(pm to Dei....)

Yes, i know tracklistings don't usually list Sister Ray as having been played, but that's hardly proof positive it wasn't
Anyway, my last recourse is to compare the version to other versions of Sister Ray from Black October tour. Won't be that difficult cause this one isn't a medley with Ghostrider or Louie Louie.
Stand by for further updates, i'll try to do it today.

Thanks, silence is platinum.
The Sister Ray in question starts with 4xdrum beat of SR, then at the same time the guitars come in with the 5th, Eldritch says 'Sister Ray'. And after a while, when bass comes in, he screams again 'Sister Ray'. Until he first says 'Sister Ray' there's no guitars on the background nor does he mumble anything, there's just the drumbeat.
So anyone interested may check.
And as i just finished checking (i had 8 candidates), no SR from Black October and Walk Away tours matched even close. This of course proves yet nothing, just strongly indicates, as i don't have all, Huddersfield and Hanley at least i don't have (well actually i have them somewhere but the discs are "MÃŒA" because the sound in those is uninspiring so i didn't bother checking).
Maybe taylor can give a comment?

This tape comes from Ian Mc D tape trader that was one of the most famous in Uk in the 80's. He taped the most of the sisters gigs in 1984/85 then
tapes were sold at the gigs or at Portobello Road. He often added bonus at end of tapes like extra tracks or rare demos (I.e Alice/1969/good things)
If I remember right I had checked the SR and seems close to the rest of the venue as levels, audience distance, ect so I had considered it as part of the gig.
Anyway as soon as Ill get the disk will check again and then will write my minds

The tape you are talking about is one of mine.
It is from the 84 gig (i was there).
I recently transferred the 84 & 85 gigs (both complete) to CD to trade for some other stuff I was after.
The cut, I can only imagine , came as a result of the master having precious minutes of crowd noise.
Without the cut, the gig would trickle onto 2 discs.
With it, the play time comes to around 77mins & just scrapes onto 1 disc.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Does verify pretty much everything conclusivelly Thanks.

Glad I could help.
The trader in question (i guess you know him) now has the discs obviously & I also have the original transfers.
He says also that the 85 gig is a better transfer than the one he originally had. (I was at that one too)
I was originally led to believe the 84 gig he had was missing Adrenochrome too, but was just SR.
I listened to the disc at the weekend & was good to recall that night (my first Sisters gig).
Belting version of Burn imo
Cheers.
Steve

To be completely honest, I have never heard the Black October bootleg.
All my tapes were just dated & didn't have all the silly names that I see flying around these days.
I only learned that the bootleg was called Black October when I was talkng to the trader.

pista, so there was a double lp and cd as well from your tape!
you should contact producers for some profits
anyway, me want version with perfect day "intro" and crowd between adrenochrome and sister ray
