What would you know? According to what I've heard, there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime.

Hah! We get a longer summer than you do!

Because the Earth is closest to the Sun in January, and therefore orbits faster, the time between the September equinox and the March equinox (northern hemisphere autumn and winter / southern hemisphere spring and summer) is on average about a week shorter* than the other "half" of the year from March until September (northern hemisphere spring and summer / southern hemisphere autumn and winter)

(Guess who got "Does Anything Eat Wasps" and "Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze" for Christmas ;D)

* 6 days 18 hours to be more precise.
