On my recording of Frankfurt 28.5.84 GS is an -83 version inserted between Body Electric and Sister Ray. So was GS played that night or did someone just assume it was missing and try to fool people with this silly trick?
Also was GS actually played on London 24.5.84? Possibly they didn't play it a couple of times on that tour? Or did someone just not want to spread the complete recordings of the gigs?
Lots of speculation without any clues...Help, please

mark: In -83 version he sings a long time with guitar strumming on background after drumbeat ends, that's the easiest way to tell for sure, as the ending is different in -84 versions. Of course, he also sings quite differently.

Right.
My London 24/5/84 doesn't have Gimme Shelter.
My Frankfurt 28/5 sounds as though someone has re-done the track separations. There's a tape cut towards the end (last ~30 seconds) of Body Electric, just after a couple of beats from the Doktor. (I'm pretty sure it's the start of the drumbeat for Ghost Rider now I listen again!) then you hear Von mumble something like "we were going to play 1969" (which is a pointer to 1983 in itself) then another tape cut right at the end of Gimme Shelter (which yes, does sound like an 83 version) back into Ghost Rider, which has the very start cut off.
I'll try cutting Gimme Shelter out to see whether the Doktor bits at the end of Body Electric match up to the start of Ghost Rider.

i didn't try tinkering whether BE fits to GR so interesting to see what results you get...oh yes, actually i can't cause GR starts abruptly with beginning cut off, i don't have those few beats at the end of BE.

It matches up exactly.
Gimme Shelter has been spliced in, definitely.

Thanks Taylor, for the confirmation.

Sorry to butt in and reopen this one. But I've got a tape which I've had since 1987. Good quality, sound board probably, by the 'muted' audience noise.
I don't know where it's from ,but it's the same track listing as above but also with Shelter beween Body E and Ghost R / S Ray
However, there are no 'missing beats' anywhere although there's a little blip before beginning of Ghost Rider , but apart from that it sounds like it segues straight in.
Body Electric is marked by a terse thank you at the end and Shelter is prefaced by a quick burst of Temple , first few bars, one geetar only.
Before Floorshow starts there is a 'this is the law' comment.
It could be a splice I suppose , but doesn't feel like it , the ambience levels etc all sound the same over the whole tape.
Probably find out it's compiled from 11 different gigs over the whole year!
Cheers
for any info!

undertow: i guess the question is about which Gimme Shelter it is on your tape. Is it one that ends with guitar strumming and Von singing for a while after drumbeat ends, -83 version, or -84 version where he sings just a couple of lines after drumbeat ends?

Hi itnAklipse, thanks for the reply .
Well, this 'Shelter' is six mins long and it ends with just vocals, bass and percussive parts of drum machine , then the last 15 seconds is just Uncle warbling 'It's just a kiss away, kiss away etc' to himself a couple of times, completely unaccompanied
Cheers
