Sisters Gigs in 1981

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

OK, maybe it was what is now The Square On The Lane? I think it used to be a Brannigans. :?:

Thanks a lot Dan & everybody else, that was very helpful!

So this is what we've got so far...:

16.02.1981 York University (Vanbrugh College)
On some lists the name “Alcuin College appears. Both names are correct since the Alcuin college is a smaller building within the Vanbrugh College.

Teachers / The Damage Done / Watch / Good Things / Adrenochrome / 1969 /
Sister Ray
(source: Pinnell 1990)

Kenny Giles Walks On Water (Tape)
Good Things

19.03.1981 Leeds (F Club)

“F-Club" was the name of a club-night which moved from venue to venue. Hence the name of the venue where the gig took place seems to be unknown.

22.03.1981 Leeds (F Club)

(05.04.1981 York University)
This date appears on some lists but it is very questionable whether a gig was played on that day. It is much more likely that someone mixed the day and the month (maybe because of the different notation in the UK and the European mainland) and put the wrong venue.

04.05.1981 Leeds St. John’s

According to the official Sisters website the location of the gig was the Warehouse in Leeds. Other sources state the St. John’s which is probably correct.

Damage Done + 3 (Single)
The Damage Done / Watch // Teachers/Adrenochrome

The Damage Is Done (LP)
The Damage Done / Watch // Teachers/Adrenochrome / Sister Ray

Monochrome (CD)

1969 / Sister Ray

13.06.1981 Leeds University

02.07.1981 Leeds Warehouse

An advert for this gig can be found in the revised edition of the Heartland Anthology on page 19. The name of the venue appears as The Warehouse Club, Somers St. Leeds 1.

05.09.1981 Stafford New Bingley Hall – Futurama 3 Festival
A ticket pass for the event can be found in the image bank of this forum.

Floorshow / Good Things / Watch / The Damage Done / 1969 / Teachers/Adrenochrome Sister Ray
(source: Tape)

(06.09.1981 Leeds Queens Hall)
This date appears on some lists and is also mentioned in the Heartland Anthology on page 13: “The Sisters did appear on the bill for John Keenan’s third Futurama Festival that was held in Leeds awesome Queen’s Hall on the 6th of September." However, it is very questionable whether a gig was played on that day. The confusion probably arose because this was also a “Futurama. The date does not appear on the official website. On some lists the name of the venue appears as “Queen Hall which is definitely wrong.

02.10.1981 Leeds Brannigans (F-Club)

Support: Screaming Abdabs

Sometimes the venue is spelled “Branigan’s which is not correct.

09.11.1981 Leeds University

21.11.1981 Bradford Caesars

Support for Nico. A ticket for this gig was spotted on Ebay.

Thanks!!

Quite intrigued by this. Have located a copy priced £17 + P&P. Is that a fair price? Are there any scans available? I've looked at pretty much every picture/article in the Heartland Gallery, but this was the first time I've heard of the Anthology. If a lot of the book is duplicated in the gallery, then the cash could be put to better use.

The Heartland issues / anthology are nothing to do with www.myheartland.co.uk (with the obvious exception that they both deal with The Sisters)

yep, nowt to do with this site... i'm afraid i rather stole the book's title for the name of this site (although in my defence the book's author stole it from the song anyway, and the book was long since out of print... :!: :innocent:)

imho, the write-ups and the photos in the book are well worth splashing the money out on. all 4 issues (a seperate issue 4 is usually easier to track down than that 1-3 anthology) are a fascinating read if you're into the sisters in that way 8)

£18.40??? Puh.... You should have checked Ebay first...

Is this Polish version still available? I'd be pretty much interested in that one. (I can't read a word Polish I must admit but it I think it would look nice next to the Greek and Italian lyrics book in the book shelf).

Can't recall where I got it, in a trade probably, many moons ago. I've not looked at it for ages, but as I recall it is a translation of the first version of the anthology, although with some different pictures; its properly published, with a black and white cover different to the original English version.

I have the Heartland bootleg discography booklet somewhere too - proofs were printed up but it was never published.
