live, they are responsible for some of the best gigs i've ever seen and some of the worst gigs i've ever seen.
bastards.
i've never known a band so utterly hit-and-miss on stage as the sisters...
there are so many factors involved in appraising a sisters gig for me. sometimes they can look to be having a rollocking good time on stage but you cant bloody hear them as they're too quiet.
other times they sound powerful enough but look to be going through the motions a bit (this happens less often these days. i think it was mainly adam who gave the whole affair that 'cant be arsed' impression)
other times, eldritch can be prowling around on stage looking every inch the rock god, while the other guys bounce about having a great time, and all should be ok, but there's just something not quite right that you cant put your finger on...
they're strange band
have the sisters turned s**t

Even if they had the same line-up, thank god they don't, they would still not sound like the records, thats because unless you are Pink Floyd, or Jean micheal jarre, or have lots of sounds on lots of tapes, the logistics of life one the road mess up your sound. Read the official site, and read why AE sings so low in the mix, and read why they don't run everything off tapes, its three people making noise, four if you include Si. and this is the best line up of the band... 1985 has gone.
Not as good as Motorhead, but better than The Birthday Party, which makes us pretty damn good.

Given this topic I'd like to know your opinion on the following matter. Once in 1987 E mentioned the fact he wanted his songs to be the best they could be before touring them. Now, I'm not a big fan of the "new songs" but al lot of people here are. So my question to them is: do you think the new songs are the best they can be? Because to me they sound more like ideas instead of fully completed songs. What do you think?

Well, It depends ....
We are the same susanne is very good, although the more recent versions are weaker than the pearson's one...
( why did they put this like pop dramatic guitar riff )
Crash and burn is a cool song, and goes well with "Old Andrew"
Still is ..... not good ....
Will I dream ? can be good , and IS very good on the bootleg "Visions at the forum" , but it needs a VERY WIRED Andrew to be powerful....
Romeo Down is always a pleasure and is a good "calm break" during a show! Love the bass , Love Andrew's screams at the end ( " 'til the boy is gone" )
Summer is very efficient but gets quickly boring ...
Susanne pre-2003 and Romeo Down are my favorites!

Lyrically i think the sisters have alays been great, but its the music that is letting them down.
1980-85 great sound, great album and great live shows
1986-90 another great album, but here's where things start to go arwy with the music, don't get me wrong Floodland is quality, but the music starts to become a little repetative.
1990-present an alright-ish album, but crap music. Vision Thing is the same all the way through, most other song are very repetative, the only decent songs on the albums are ribbons and something fast.
85 might well have gone, but until your man employs somebody with a bit of musicall nounce (not just pounding out power cords!) the sisters will continue to sound unfortunatly average.
There was so much potential

This has probably previously been mentioned, but judging from the sound and vision of recent tours, it does look as if the sisters have held up far better than a lot of other bands from that era.
Its just a different creature, but not much left of the beast.

1 guitar riff and a chorus. Did you ever count how many times the man
is singing "We Are The Same Suzanne"??? He'd better sing: "I Sing The
Same Again" (and again and again).
Now, I'm not a fan of the new songs but I'm pretty sure they could
be MUCH better than they are now. I still wouldn't like them but they
would be better..

Strangely enough, the two aforementioned "old" songs aren't generally classified as "bad" or "weak" songs.

Now I've heard it all. I suggest you listen to it again. In what precise way does I Was Wrong sound like Doctor Jeep, and in what precise way does Ribbons sound like More? It may not be their finest hour, but one thing it ISN'T is repetitive...Potski wrote:Vision Thing is the same all the way through, most other song are very repetative, the only decent songs on the albums are ribbons and something fast.

What I meant was each indivdual song is repetative, not every song on the album sounds exactly the same. In the 80-85 era there was always a change a altered bass line or great guitar riff, none of which really happen on the vision thing album or much of what has been writen since.MrChris wrote:Now I've heard it all. Don't get me wrong I still love the Sisters, but it doesn't mean I have to like everything they do.
