Safari

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Just downloaded this for Windows and first impression is that it's really fast. Even faster than Opera

Anyone else tried it?

Ooh they're doing Safari for Windows?

I knocked Safari (Mac) on the head in favour of Firefox some time ago.

It looks very pretty but it's not too good, really. I've become too accustomed to all the nice Firefox extensions I use.

It does render text horribly, tt looks all blurred but I was referring more to the Mac feel it's got for the menus.

I use Camino, it's a stripped down FF, I do believe, no complaints here.

i use safari 2 as my standard browser because its fast and does its job well :)

however, if i need to check/debug any code i'm writing then i'll switch to firefox so i can use a few developer plugins (eg: w3c validation of html or use firebug to debug javascript)

firefox on a mac is slow and butt-ugly. camino is nicer, but as far as i can gather its still a bit flaky, even with the new v1.5 :|

i had a peek at the PC safari 3 beta earlier and tbh i think it looks awful. the dark itunes metal skin doesnt look right on a pc IMO... it looks like pc itunes with a browser crammed in, and pc itunes is hideous.

(i actually use UNO for my mac so all apps have that nice light-metallic aqua skin :D)

tbh, i dont see it being any real competition for ie7 or FF on PCs, but if it helps pc-based web developers create sites that look & work properly on macs (web 2.0 & ajax etc), then i'm all for it 8)

i'm not going to install the mac safari 3 beta though. i'll just wait until it comes out properly.

only flakiness I've had with v1.5 is 'The Critical One' and in here only Barry

No Linux version yet, but I might try it out when there is. I doubt I'll use it as my default browser (like Lucien, I've become addicted to my FF extensions). I've downloaded it on the Windows PC at work, though, to add to the testing suite.

Firefox 3 - which will pass acid2 - should be available in beta by August (with a proper release around Nov/Dec?) - I'm looking forward to that.

Maybe it never reached the Northern territories :?:
Typically messy children's game show that always ended with the contestants covered in mud and host Christopher Biggins laughing his big fat bottom off (not very encouraging, was he?). Two children were paired with a celebrity the likes of Bill Oddie, Rolf Harris and everybody else working on Children's' ITV at that time. One team wore red overalls, the other blue and onto the jungle set they ventured. Their score was kept on Flintstone inspired tablets by Gillian Taylforth (before she moved to Albert Square on the BBC).

Christopher Biggins had been a Transylvanian in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and portrayed Roman Emperor Nero in the final episode of "I, Claudius", but after a recurring part in Rentaghost became a mainstay of children's television and Christmas Panto's. He only returned to prime time television as Cilla Black's assistant on "Surprise Surprise". He was also easily identifiable as one of those mid eighties television presenters who collected silly spectacles and wore load shirts on every occasion (worse than Mike Read but not Timmy Mallett).

Anyway, back on safari the contestants were still trying to get more pineapples and Golden Banana's than the other team. In the final round, "The Swamp", each answer to Christophers' pop quiz would win them an item to help (or hinder) them across a trail of stepping stones. "You must use it or carry it" Biggins would yell, already rolling on the floor with mirth. But three of the four routes landed the contestants in the gunge, ensuring more opportunities for the Pantomime Dame to gloat. More than twenty years later a new show with the same title appeared, in which two teams of kids try to survive Longleat safari park. No sign of loud shirts or spectacles this time.
"Safari, so goodie".
