Terry Pratchett Quotes
The gods of the Disc have never bothered much about judging the souls of
the dead, and so people only go to hell if that's where they believe, in
their deepest heart, that they deserve to go. Which they won't do if they
don't know about it. This explains why it is so important to shoot
missionaries on sight.
-- (Terry Pratchett, Eric)
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple
of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord
Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.
-- (Terry Pratchett, alt.fan.pratchett)
Crowley had been extremely impressed with the warranties offered by the
computer industry, and had in fact sent a bundle Below to the department
that drew up the Immortal Soul agreements, with a yellow memo form attached
just saying: "Learn, guys."
-- Crowley is a demon, in case you don't know
(Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman, Good Omens)
Many phenomena - wars, plagues, sudden audits - have been advanced as
evidence for the hidden hand of Satan in the affairs of Man, but whenever
students of demonology get together the M25 London orbital motorway is
generally agreed to be among the top contenders for exhibit A.
-- (Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman, Good Omens)
Getting an education was a bit like a communicable sexual disease. It made
you unsuitable for a lot of jobs and then you had the urge to pass it on.
-- (Terry Pratchett, Hogfather)

I may have told this story before.
I went to a book signing by Neil Gaiman (when the novel of Neverwhere was released) and he did a Q&A session. One question was "is there anything going to happen about this film of Good Omens we've heard rumours of?"
Neil's reply went something like this:
Terry and I actually got as far as a meeting with a Hollywood producer about making the film of Good Omens. As we were waiting for this guy in his outer office, I turned to Terry;
"Look, we know how this is likely to turn out, we need some sort of signal, so that if either of us is unhappy about the way this is going, we can say a code-word, and we just both just apologise and leave, OK?"
"Good idea," said Terry, "how about 'Biggles?'"
"'Biggles?' OK, fine."
Then we were shown into Mr Hagelstrobendorf's office.
"Hey guys, great to meet you, look, I was thinking about this book, yeah, look, great book, great book, but what this movie needs is an angle, look, so what I was thinking, look, is this, OK, so what we need is some love interest, OK? So maybe Adam and this Pepper girl..."
I opened my mouth to say "Biggles", and turned round to Terry, who was sitting there with his arms stretched out, swaying from side to side, softly humming The Dam Busters March.

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.
