The making of Heartland

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

in short:

i used to post on wishville - the chameleons forum that mik runs

it was ace. a great, vibrant community dedicated to an active band that i loved. the people were great and i got to meet a lot of them at chams gigs :notworthy:

at the same time as this, i was also a member of the sisters' dominion mailing list

unfortunately, dominion at this time was going through a bit of a bad patch. there were very few posts, and older members used to get fed up with newbies asking the same old questions.

it lacked the 'social' element of wishville, and any attempts at social chat were quickly put down as being OFF TOPIC

also, due to the group's format (an email ist) there was no readily available archive of old mails for newbies to read

(actually, there was, but it seemed that most new members couldnt find it)

it occured to me that i could start something very much like wishville, but for my favourite band - the sisters :D

so i went away and started a small forum 8)

it seems that sinny had pretty much the same idea at the same time for when i announced HL on dominion she said she was looking into doing the same thing, but i had pipped her to the post

thus i invited her to help me moderate the place... :notworthy:

i then recruited a few friends, a few dominionites, and even a few wishvillers who liked the sisters.

the rest is history :D

the place was only ever intended to support dominion, and remove the unwanted chatter away from there. since day one there has been an open offer to dominion's admin - pete, aka -bat - to join in the fun and join the admin team here, but so far he has politely declined the offer :notworthy: 8) (as far as i understand it, his job makes it difficult to spend time on the web, and so while mailing lists are quite anonymous and he can happily look after that site, he's not really able to spend enough time on the web to make it feasible)

there's a lot of stuff happened between then and now (such as padstar, the chairman, rj & mrs rj, weeding & sharing, markfiend & petseri, etc), and i can give you some edited highlights if you really want, but i'm sure other members can fill in the gaps better than i :D

nice thread

The page header should be changed to "The Sisters of Mercy Unwanted Chatter Forums".

I'm still very, very unhappy with Sinnie's Mornington Crescent, I seriously question it. Stoholz 1983 and all that... yes?

Kensington High Street ;D
