Just think what you could do with the camera and digital processing, James. Go ahead and do it, chum!

I felt really grand taking a roll of Ilford HP5 to the lab and asking, in a confident voice, to "have it pushed one stop" AND knowing what that meant. I then realised I'd be screwed if they asked me more specific questions so made a hasty withdrawalJames Blast wrote:I have 'something' to live up to. I will try, but be prepared for disappointment.

Seriously though, JB, being a relative newcomer here I'd never seen your gig shots before. Even though you play them down I think they are as good as many I've seen printed and used professionally.
If you only capture 90% of that with a camera again then you'll still be 80% ahead of most.
You owe it to our eyes to get that shutter blinking.........

Please explain then, as I have no clueCarpathian Psychonaut wrote: "have it pushed one stop" AND knowing what that meant.
Made some shots that had the risk of looking good yesterday, will possibly be on later.

I know what "pushing it a stop" means too. I still dream of setting up a home dark-room at some time in the future.

As an example, developing a 200 ASA film as if it was a 400 ASA one. A two stop push would be doing it as if two speeds faster ie a 200 ASA film as an 800 one.Obviousman wrote:Please explain then, as I have no clueCarpathian Psychonaut wrote: "have it pushed one stop" AND knowing what that meant.
In effect it tries to make up for the film that was used, though in some it can bring out more obvious grain. This may, of course, be the whole point of doing it though, especially if after some drama. See my first Holga set, including that Sage roof one, for the effect......

"pushing one stop" can also mean a move to an adjacent station on the same line, as part of the 1974 UK revision of Mornington Crescent rules.
Sorry, I had to mention it.

Funnily enough I have two rolls of XP2 Super 120 @ 400 in the fridge right now - that's the high contrast, very forgiving C41-developed one of which you speak. I've also got a roll of HP5 120 @ 400 to try out but I'll need to use a diff lab (ie non-high street).spot778 wrote:Carp
You ever play around with Ilford XP1 ?
For the rest it's a B&W film that can be developed in those 1 hour colour machines.
Gives you some cool tints.
I swear by Ilford for B&W shots.
Ilford is pretty much my film of choice at the moment B&W wise!
