sorry but "1959 and all that" is a pretty well known site for lyrics analysis
personally, i reckon they have their head a little up their arse
you dont need to worry about pointinbg out new stuff you know! as has already been noted there aint much new in sisters land anymore... its more a case of having something interesting to say or point out about all the existing stuff thats around...

S'alright.
But you gotta accept that we're all sisters nuts who've been on the web (in many cases) for the last 8 plus years - we've trawled and trawled and, yes, trawled, the whole web a *few* times.
Nothin' new under the sisters sun.

It was some thread in joke of the day - linked to a "put a kkk member in a humorous pose with photoshop" . So I did.
Thought it was funny.

I agree. I think many times people look too deeply into lyrics. Eldritch probably wrote many of the lyrics just cos they sounded good, but then people overanalyse later and find loads of grand literary references (and write a bloody thesis on it).Quiff Boy wrote: personally, i reckon they have their head a little up their arse

Theres the same problem with my other obsession, horror films. Theres so many analyses an essays on the sociopolitical meanings of who gets killed first, what the knife represents (for gods sake...) etc.
When all that was going through the directors mind was "blood, tits, more blood, maiming, crap sex scene, dead".

Well, some people write things in that way. As AE famously said, the time it took Hussey to write lyrics was just the time it took him to find the right book...But some artists are self-confessed meaning-stuffers, and claim to be poring over something for years, to invest it with the utmost layer of meaning. AE, as usual, is a little inconsistent on whether he falls into the first or second category, but at least sometimes he claims to fall into the second, which is why some of us spend so long scratching our heads about his lyrics. It's not very important in the big scheme of things to find out what his lyrics mean, but it's a diverting game. A bit like cryptic crosswords. For people of that persuasion - including me - I can make my own day by suddenly figuring out a reference I'd never understood before. Call me sad, thousands do. Of course, I could be producing the wrong answers, but if it adds another element to my appreciation of the music, it's fine by me. I'm easily pleased.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fine game. But when the eighteenth interpretation comes out, you begin to wonder....MrChris wrote:Well, some people write things in that way. Listening to a Sisters song without overanalyzing the lyrics is like drinking Port without eating Stilton, like watching porn for the acting bits in between sex, like sitting at the theatre without popcorn, like flying abroad without having a drink, like going to the pub without cigarettes, like watching football alone, et cetera. IMO.

I'm going to be an asshole and point out that I don't drink port, take chocloate and water to the cinema, don't drink on planes (DVT!), no longer smoke and can't f**king stand football.
But my porn doesn't even have "acting bits", so I see your point...

That I did not know. You learn something new every day.
Tequila's my drink of choice. Long with a bottle of tonic or soda. Lovely.

Nothing against it - it's just not my regular drink. I have a bit at Christmas. It's the only festive thing I can drink after the "sherry episode".moonchild wrote:You don't drink Port??? Port wine??? I'm from the land of Portwine...Jim wrote:I don't drink port

I was joking.... It's not your regular drink and Portwine is also NOT to drink like you drink Vodka (for example). Is just to drink or in some special ocasion (like x-mas) or at the end of a meal. It's very tasty with cheese and with cake, but you probably know that.Jim wrote:

Ye cannae beat a good bottle ay Madeira!
Getting back to the really important point, if you DID drink port, you'd be missing something if you didn't have it with Stilton. Erm, or was there a more important point being discussed?
I agree with Green Lantern completely. Listening to Sisters songs without analysing the lyrics is like going to a football match without calling the referee a blind b-st-rd, like going to Scotch Corner services without having a whisky, like walking past a wedding without checking out the bride, like loudly passing wind without feeling a hint of pride, like reading a catalogue without rifling through the underwear section...
Okay, Green Lantern's similes were better...
