I'd bet that these are just some well known recordings, too - don't feel the need to pay so much money just for a silver disc surface. Btw. even a limited-lot cd production isn't very expensive, like it was years ago.
If I would recognized my recording for sale, I'd fake buy every single auction until the seller get's mad to place that stuff on ebay anymore.

Was it Alice or our daughter Ellice???
I don't bid on bootleg-cd's, factory-made or not. When I see one on a fair or in a shop, I buy it. Vinyl is a different story though ...cardoman wrote:Saw biddings upto 25$ for these ones...DocSommer wrote:I'd bet that these are just some well known recordings, too - don't feel the need to pay so much money just for a silver disc surface. True, but like I said, I didn't buy them on Ebaycardoman wrote:

As a fan for almost 20 years now, I bought most of the cd's in "normal" record stores. In those days you could buy many bootlegs in alternative record shops (there was no internet back then ) Nowadays I buy most bootlegs on fairs.

Those are official releases indeed, strictly limited ofcourse. Never heard of the "box-in-a-box" though ...cardoman wrote:Official releases:pikkrong wrote:I don't understand the point of those wooden boxes - they are all unofficial versions of officially released CD-s, right?

As a general rule of thumb, in the world as is, the merchant always makes more profit than the producer.
i still can't really understand someone getting terribly upset about someone else selling bootlegs on ebay...if there's a moral crime in there, it's miniscule compared to what even YOU do in your daily life without thinking anything about it.
If someone wants to pay 30 dollars for a cd-r of a show of his favourite band, he probably doesn't know where to get it for free. Seems to me some ppl are pissed off basically cause they don't get money from it, which they wouldn't in the first place cause after all they are such "morally upstanding citizens" that they wouldn't dare charge.
(i'm not condoning or condemning selling bootlegs on ebay, i've never sold any, though i've bought a few, but this kind of whining and moral outrage for something that hurts absolutely no one...geeshuz).

If it's a factory made bootleg, no problems at all (ex Kiss the stone) but a copy can you justify that? You are an exception than, no problem with that...itnAklipse wrote:As a general rule of thumb, in the world as is, the merchant always makes more profit than the producer.

Looks like you never recorded yourself to see your recording ending up on Ebay. I have, and believe me, it ain't funny and has definately nothing to do with not getting money ...itnAklipse wrote:As a general rule of thumb, in the world as is, the merchant always makes more profit than the producer.

Btw, strange thing that you want to tell other people how they should feel ... to put it back in perspective again: it has nothing to do with a "terribly upset" or "moral crime", but with condoning other people's (Ebay) actions.

BTW it's very simply to "print" bootlegs from the recordings offered in the weeding section....for exsample i saw how all my friends, members of local bands, print their demo sessions....and the same things could happens using some of the good weedings....in other words all the works offered on E-bay could be a work made from some mate of us

if somebody is selling a copy of their own recording why should it be such a problem ? their time, effort and expense - good luck to them. Its better to buy it from the source of the tape than some gangster type bootlegger who doesn't care about the quality of the tape he's just pressed a few hundred cds of; or worse crap quality vinyl where the needle drag sounds louder that the audio its supposed to contain. The attitude that once a tape is pressed to a bona fide bootleg, the 'crime' of selling is somehow less - due to art and font considerations, is total arse.cardoman wrote:If it's a factory made bootleg, no problems at all (ex Kiss the stone) but a copy can you justify that? And if somebody sells 'your' recording on ebay then boo-ho, there are scroats everywhere wanting to make a penny out of somebody elses efforts - its no diferent to any other walk of life. I used to get a bit miffed about that aspect but now I view it as a backhanded compliment that the tape is worth hearing by casuals. I've seen my stuff at record fairs in Europe and the US it makes for interesting conversation, you can get good contacts and info from these people - but once its out, its out - not everybody has the inclination to trade, they just want a good tape of a show, or a particular one they went to without the phony ethical fuss that professional traders like to instill on the proceedings.
The going rate for a bootleg with art at a record fair in the UK is £10; after the seller has done the copies, got up at ungodly hours and dragged his ass round the country to various sportscentres and civic halls, paid for petrol, paid for a stall, been accosted by some of the most deadly forms of B.O and bad breath generated outside laboratory conditions, factor in the unpredictable sales patterns, I doubt he's going to be set for life over it. Live and let live.
At least 2 of my tapes are on ebay as I type .....
this ones called my girlfriends husband drives a tank
Not everybody shares your hippie-like feelings, Wayne (no offence)! Feel free to feel whatever you want about your recordings being sold on Ebay, but I DO mind that my recordings are sold over there ...wayne wrote:
