the reptile house and other stuff

Have you established a good reputation at HL and got some Sisters stuff to sell or trade with the community? Or are you searching for that elusive ultra rare live bootleg from 1988? Ever had a bad experience with a trader on Ebay? Let us all know here. Outdated threads will be purged over time.

i own two copies of this mlp

one with a pink on black cover
one with a violet on crimson cover

what's the difference ?

furthermore i own two copies of alice (12") and two copies of temple of love (12")
Both are released in the same country and have the same markings on the spindle. I notice however a slight colour difference in the sleeves (and no : i'm not colour blind !)

Anyone an explaination ?

I think different pressings is the answer to both questions.
I have those as well.

UK issues:
1st pressing with lyric sheet : violet on crimson cover.
spine says: The Sisters Of Mercy, The Reptile House E.P, Merciful Release MR023

2nd pressing violet on crimson cover. spine says: The Sisters Of Mercy, The Reptile House E.P, Made In England.

US issuse:

same as first UK issue + braineater sticker on back. I have 3 different colours on the sticker. White, Green and Red. As with all Braineater releases, beware there are fake copys out there. There is a old thread on the topic here somwhere.

Dutch issue: Pink on black cover + Barcode on back of the sleeve. Spine says: The Sisters Of Mercy, The Reptile House EP, Made In Holland.

Much easier to indentify the first and second pressing off alice and Temple.

st pressing, thin sleeve, opening on top.
2nd pressing, thick sleeve, opening on side.

Dutch pressing barcode. (alice, temple)

US issue: Alice braineater logo printed on back.
temple red or orange
sticker. might be more colours, but these are the only ones i´ve seen.

Belgian pressing (temple): 1 dark red, one lighter red vinyl, one sleeve with sticker, one without sticker, black vinyl pressing.

Beg to differ.

I have both UK releases of Reptile House and they're on black backgrounds. I know it's sometimes said one's on crimson, but I'd say it's more a different shade of black due to different print runs, bearing in mind that printed black is actually made up of other colours and that the pink/violet on the image is also a different shade. They'd be the only Sisters records not to have black covers otherwise.

My first pressing (with lyric sheet) is definitely violet/dark pink on black. Couldn't be mistaken for anything else. Has all the same details as Drsisters mentions.

My second pressing is brighter pink on faded black. It's the one that could be considered crimson in some lights but as I said I think that's just due to the colour process. In most lights it looks black. Again, same details as previously mentioned.

By the way, both records have "Made In France" on the labels, as well as the Paint It Black runout groove message.

Oops, so it is. Hadn't looked at it for years and those things are always impossible to read properly.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Aren't these perceived colour differences likely to be some sort of effect of which light you are viewing it under?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamerism_(color)
When I was in the UK there was a dark red VW golf in a street near me, but at night, under the street lights, one of the doors appeared completely black.
During the day, all the same colour, at night, not.
It's possible that different print runs used different ink compositions giving the effect of different colours in different lighting conditions.
If the spec. was simply "black" then I guess it didn't matter what "black" got used.
Cheers.
