my email address of mark at markfiend dot com has been spoofed by spammers so I've deleted the address. I wanted to change my email address here to (my screen name) at gmail dot com but can't seem to...

I tried to change to a gmail last week or so too with my wet 'puter but from consulting Quiffy I learned he's blocked gmail as there's lots of spam coming from that general direction

A related question: aside from hotmail and gmail, are there any free/web-based email accounts that are allowed. I may be losing my existing email address soon, so might have to find another one I can use.

that must because we introduced the ban after you had joined. it only effects new registrations...robertzombie wrote:My hotmail has always worked with Heartland!

i'm pretty sure yahoo isnt blocked, but i can check the banlists and report back.
we have always been reluctant to ban the larger, well-established free email services but sometimes an exploit is found in their registration process which means that bots and spammers can get a valid email address from them, which in turn means that we have more trouble identifying who's legit and who is real
aol, web.de, google's email service and hotmail have all had such problems in the past
whenever we have received an influx of spam accounts from a given domain we will tend to block it then, and deal with user complaints/problems on an individual basis
