Looking through my collection for the first time in ages yesterday, I found I have Anaconda with four different sleeves:
- matt textured thin card sleeve without die-cut top slot
- matt textured thin card sleeve with long die-cut top slot
- gloss thick card sleeve without die-cut top slot - reissue (available throughout the 80s)
- gloss thick card sleeve with long die-cut top slot - another reissue (available throughout the 80s)
All have the same ROGIs, labels and are made in France.
I always understood that the matt versions were the initial pressings, rather than mispressings.
Does anyone have any other versions?
I'd be interested to know what different versions of the Alice sleeve people have (the initial-issue white background being the obvious one).
Anaconda 7" sleeve variations
My sleeve's matt but I wouldn't have said it was textured.
And presumably you mean white (ish!) backround with black frame for Alice, as opposed to one that has a completely white sleeve. But was that the initial pressing? I always thought that was a Europe only (ie non-UK) edition.

Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.
I also have these:
7" French Second Reissue. Small Print on Cover (Impremé en France GD Imprimerie).
7" French Mispress, Gold/White Cover W/ Ribs Around the Label.
7" French Mispress, Gold/White Cover.
7" French Mispress, Gold/White Cover W/ Back Cutout.
7" French Mispress, Gold/White Cover W/ Front Cutout.
Anyone else got one with print on the sleeve or maybe know what the writing means?
Not 100% sure I got all letters right, the print is really small.

The Anaconda sleeve is slightly textured, rather than being smooth like the gloss reissues. Incidentally I found I have a fifth variant - its semi-gloss and smooth but on very thin card! Exciting, huh?!stufarq wrote:My sleeve's matt but I wouldn't have said it was textured.

All of the early singles were pressed in France; I've no idea if the distribution varied from country to country. I got an Alice 7" from a US dealer which has a white 'Made in England' sticker on the sleeve and a 'Made in England' stamp on the A-side label - not 'France' even though its clearly stated as usual on the outer edge of the B-side label!
Is this the place I used to know as Fatherland?
Oh yeah, I see what you mean about Anaconda. And good point about Alice. It may well be that dealers have just assumed it was a French-only pressing for that reason. Anyone know for sure if it was actually released in the UK?

Yes, I have the one with the small text on the front cover. From my GCSE French of only a few *cough* years back, I think it means 'printed in France (by) GD printer'. Maybe...Nic wrote:I also have these:

Correct. The text is "Imprimé en France GD Impremerie" which means exactly what deadagain said in the post above. I've been a nerd about miniscule details on Sisters records for years, but have never noticed the moulded ribs around the outside of some labels before!Nic wrote:I also have these:

I have Temple of Love, Alice and Body Electric with these ribs, but not Anaconda - does a ribbed pressing also exist? And does anyone have a Body Elec WITHOUT the ribs? (both my copies have them).
Is this the place I used to know as Fatherland?
I'd never paid attention either but I checked just for you. I'd love to be able to say that my Anaconda is ribbed for your pleasure - but it's not. My Body Electric is though. Didn't check the rest cos it had already stopped being funny.

never heard of that - surely its the kind of thing that would have been mentioned in Andrew Pinnell's books?Drsisters wrote:remember that Robin was looking for a ltd version of the anaconda single, some years ago. ltd 30 copys, fully signed and handnumbered by the band. For the Alice single, there's an intetresting version in my collection with ribbing on the A-side only. It's a white-background variant. As far as I know there is no example of the white-background vatriant with ribs on both sides, but I'm not sure: they're all unribbed or single-side ribbed in my collection.
Can someone tell me where the French text is on the Frog 2nd reissue? I've been at this colelcting thing for some long time now and never known about that one.
By the way, small "MADE IN THE UK" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" stickies are common on Sisters discs sold here in the US, regardless of their actual provenance. For example, the Alice 12EP Dutch reisssue is regularly sold with those stickers.
All Body Electric 7", including mine, are ribbed as far as I know.
I too am a longtime Sisters record-details geek. My Anaconda variants run to 11 or 12, but I've never seen or heard mention of the ltd. signed jobby Robin sought once upon a time.

Don´t think Andrew Pinell either mentioned the temple 7" single with stickers for release in Hawaii.
at least robin had a scan of the temple single on his webpage, if i remember it right.

were the Sisters a big hit in hawaii? doesn't really go with the whole northern Leeds/Yorkshire thing. Surely hawaii is one of those 'banana republic' places which Eldo would have steered clear of!

Banana republic? It's a US state. But probably way too much sunshine and general good feeling for AE.

I have heard another southern European collector mentioning the same record. However...given the fact that there are that many " rare" releases coming from Greece..and other places......how will one be able to tell if this is genuine or not?Drsisters wrote:remember that Robin was looking for a ltd version of the anaconda single, some years ago. ltd 30 copys, fully signed and handnumbered by the band. The ToL 7" from Robin's old list "with stickers for release in Hawai'i" is no different from the standard US import for any other state of the Union, as far as I know; his just happened to come from Hawai'i. Sometimes US imports were stickered "MADE IN ENGLAND," sometimes "MADE IN THE U.K.," sometimes on the sleeve, sometimes on the center label, sometimes both, and no one state got one sticker to the exclusion of the other. There are a lot of sticker variations, but with no Sisters content on the stickers (such as, for example, the Walk Away flexi sticker on the 12"), are these legit collectibles? I don;t know myself, although I do have a bunch of them. A promos tamp would be somethign different... even a promo sticker. Just my opini0on.
