Newsworthy

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Even if there is life on Mars how will 'they' know whether it's life they've found? Surely it won't be like Earthly bacteria? There might be life all around on Mars and they just don't realise it, maybe it's all invisible! ;D

It's a good point actually. I'll ask some of my xenobiology contacts... :innocent:

British steam-powered car in land-speed record bid

It's all well and good to know how it works, and how fast it will go, but we must never lose sight of what's truly important from an English perspective:
Teh Graunida wrote:The steam, at 400C, hits a turbine and turns a shaft, which makes the wheels go round. You could, apparently, make 23 cups of tea a second with that sort of heat.

Just got an email from our Dir IT, so I'm pretty confident that it's not spamalicious. Microsoft [ptooie] has a scheme that allows employees of something called Volume Licensing Software Assurance customers (generally big companies who buy lots of licenses for MS products) to get their paws on MS Office 2007 for $20.

For anyone looking for the suite (and it is stressed that under no circumstances should you be copying the DVD for a friend, loved one, child, student, unemployed person), if you work for a large outfit, this might be useful.

Basically they're looking for chemicals that are unlikely to be generated by non-living processes: high molecular-weight organics, stuff like that. Methane and ammonia (which have been detected) are possible signs of life but not unambiguous. There's some info here

Bad news is that your director of IT is probably on the take here. It's supposed to be for nowt.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I was watching CNN (don't ask) earlier where they had an interview with the guy. I wasn't listening but as big words on screen screamed 'Man that glued himself to UK PM' I was wondering whether they meant "glued" or actually glued

I wouldn't be happy if someone did it to me :urff:

I don't want to think of the mental, let alone physical anguish that would be caused by glueing yourself to Gordon Brown :urff:

There was something in Belgium about a Porsche being given away to the first person who changes his/her name (first or last) to Gerolsteiner (a brand of water). Who comes up with these things
