Interview with AE

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

The story, at first:
Few days before I was approached by my colleague from Arts section of Czech newspaper I do work in: "We have an opportunity to make interview with that Eldritch, by e-mail. Can you help me with questions?" Reluctantly, I agreed  . There was a condition for answering - "no questions asked before" (don't know whose condition, if really set by :von: ). So that I did try...

And now the result:
Answers arrived, five altogether. AE seemed in good mood when answering, nothing exceptionally suprising, but some interesting details... I did ask about Obama, old songs, new shows and visits in Czech Republic (it is for local newspaper, you know...). Don't ask about asking about new record etc etc etc....

And the answers?
I will post it as soon as published in our newspaper (with original version in English, maybe  ), certainly before their Prague gig on April 1st. Now at least one quote appetizer: "Chris Catalyst was keen on doing Floorshow, and we liked the new arrangement, so we've kept it in the set. Next time we come around, it might be something altogether different..."

to be continued...

Well, the interview was published today, here is scan of newspaper (together with my review of Tienen blast, as posted before)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/29782013@N03/3390210223/. Don't torment me because of photo, I was not present during chosing this one (Tuska Festival 2006, I suppose). Be glad it is not Royal Albert Hall one

And, here it is for English speaking minority  Genau als geschickt von Von...:

1. Shows of your last tour are described as "powerful", "much better than during tour of 2006" and even "good". What's the reason? Are your guitarists more in? Or is it your not-so-disguesed hapiness of Obama's win too?
We've been working hard at bringing a more solid sound to the gigs. There's a lot of practicing going on, and a lot of work at the sounds we use, in terms of different guitars and amplifiers. And we've been making Ben listen to a lot of Al Green records. The Obama victory was an added bonus.

2. Music and politics. Two worlds and in between. But where's the line? Can you imagine Sisters playing on inauguration evening - or something similar - as U2 did? Or was your O-B-A-M-A during American leg of tour limit of your wilingness to mix music and politics?
We've always mixed music and politics, it's just sometimes it's more obvious than others, and Obama's victory in the US just highlighted that. It was a happy coincidence that we were in the US during the end of the election campaigns and the actual vote, and we were more than happy about the result, so it follows that we show that. I can't imagine we'd ever be asked to play on inauguration evening though... have you heard Vision Thing?

3. Back to music. It's a nice suprise to hear old songs like Floorshow or Marian again. What's behind this? For example, Robert Smith said that playing old songs is good way to control oneself...
It's good to revise the setlist from time to time, whether that be with new songs or new interpretations of old songs. Chris Catalyst was keen on doing Floorshow, and we liked the new arrangement, so we've kept it in the set. Next time we come around, it might be something altogether different.

4. Your first show in Prague 1998 was touched by disputes with organizers (and moved), second show in 2001 was moved again. On the other hand, apperance in the city of Tabor on Love Planet festival in 2005 was astonishing. Is Czech curse broken now? (And how do you remember your last show in Czech republic anyway?)
Love Planet was a top night out. We love to visit (and play) the Czech Republic, and don't blame the disorganisation of one or two promoters or venues on an entire country. Your country is beautiful. The worst thing about it is all the English people.

5. Forward with concerts. In the year of 2006, you were playing first time in France and Russia. Now are you heading to Lebanon and Peru. Are there some other dreamed of venues? What about Africa?
We'll play anywhere that will have us and will make it worth our while. Chris is very keen on going to Japan, Ben wants to go to South Africa. We like going to new places, it's nice to see new faces, and it's always a good day out.

I think this is actually the "copy&paste" text of the mail they got from :von:

Looks like the recent tour schedule is just a warm-up compared to the dimensions of their future plans
