i strongly suspect that von modelled his early appearance not on alan vega, as has been suggested, but on "the child catcher" from chitty chitty bang bang... ;-)

Tomatoes? Who knows. But I think somehow Guest is right. I wonder how many “bad boy” rock stars work hard to cultivate a certain image to fit the “sex, drugs & rock ‘n roll” lifestyle? After all, surely Eldritch must have eaten his fruits and veggies to make it to 64? And my vote is for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, not so much Mary Poppins….
