I just read an old German magazine from '92
which said that the US Elektra version of
'Vision Thing' has different mixes. Right
or wrong?
'Vision Thing' different mixes?

Corey - whoever this is - has compiled a very comprehensive The Sisters of Mercy Discography ...
including official releases, bootlegs and everything in all their variations ...
Heaven knows how, when and where I got hold of it ...
Anyway, it's a word-doc now of some 78 rotten pages and 480 something kb ...
Funnily, I revised the formatting partly only yesterday and want to finish it later on today.
You want a copy when it's finished?
Otherwise someone else might be able to point you to the right website

Has anyone actually heard these alternate versions from Vision Thing? Or is this just speculation at this point?

Knowing Eldritch I'm pretty sure there are or maybe were alternate (demo) versions of almost every song of VT if you consider how long it took to finish. I think this is mentioned in a Tony James interview as well. Under The Gun might have more versions as well.j3 wrote:Has anyone actually heard these alternate versions from Vision Thing? And there are more recorded but unreleased songs.....

Were it not the case that after all that time and effort Von decided that the final versions were in fact not what he wanted and went back and used some of the rougher demo cuts..
I give you the finger but you want the whole hand...

never heard of these having seen the light of the day. it's a shame that none of these were included on the 2006 issue, as there must exist tons of them. just compare the actual track lenght with the one printed on cd - obviously changed after the booklet was already printed.Ozpat wrote:Yep, read that as well!Doktor Gott wrote:Were it not the case that after all that time and effort Von decided that the final versions were in fact not what he wanted and went back and used some of the rougher demo cuts..

No mention of any different mixes on the US version,vicus wrote:this one?
so I suppose the claim was wrong. Thanks.
From the I-really-waste-grey-matter-on-this-? department: If I recall correctly, there was a difference of two seconds on the UK and US releases of the More single. I am going by memory here, but 8:38 and 8:40 were the times listed, respectively. To be honest, I never noticed a difference between the two, but I never really felt compelled to queue them up and play them simultaneously.

I have demo stored somewhere, but I think what you're after, the more obvious thing, is the visionthing mix on the LP isn't anywhere near as good as the mix on Overbombing and which was in turn somewhere else TOL? i can't remember. As far as i recall the actual mixes on the various LPs from the various places don't vary at allFodderstompf wrote:No mention of any different mixes on the US version,vicus wrote:this one?

on radio version of more difference is easy to hear. on us version eldritch sings "i want more" twice before the maggie's backing vocals, on european versions only oncePetseri wrote:From the I-really-waste-grey-matter-on-this-? department: If I recall correctly, there was a difference of two seconds on the UK and US releases of the More single. Well, originally my question was if the US version of thelachert wrote:on radio version of more difference is easy to hear. on us version eldritch sings "i want more" twice before the maggie's backing vocals, on european versions only oncePetseri wrote:From the I-really-waste-grey-matter-on-this-? department: If I recall correctly, there was a difference of two seconds on the UK and US releases of the More single. album differs from the UK/European version.
It seems this is not the case.
That's actually very common (happens a lot when an album version is put out unaltered as a single) and often has nothing to do with different versions. It's just down to variations in speed between different pressings, tapes etc. Exactly the same track in different formats can end up with several seconds difference in length.Petseri wrote:From the I-really-waste-grey-matter-on-this-? department: If I recall correctly, there was a difference of two seconds on the UK and US releases of the More single. I don't own a Elektra CD Version , but on my Vision Thing Eastwest CD's
are different playtimes . Both Barcode 9031-72663-2 :
Ltd. Edition ("Leather Sleeve") vs "Standard Edit."
Ribbons 5.25 - 6.08
Something Fast 4.36 - 5.16

Very interesting, those play times are certainly quite different in length. The difference is great enough that it appears that they would have to be different mixes. They're not varying by only a few seconds there.
Would love to hear those limited edition mixes now that I know this.

As far as I understood it, just the playing times as they are printedj3 wrote:michael wrote:I don't own a Elektra CD Version , but on my Vision Thing Eastwest CD's

on the sleeve differ, not the actual tracks themselves which have the
standard lengths.
But it indicates that different mixes existed which were replaced by
the standard mixes after the US artwork was done.
I`ve checked both exactly , they are not different .Fodderstompf wrote:As far as I understood it, just the playing times as they are printedj3 wrote:michael wrote:I don't own a Elektra CD Version , but on my Vision Thing Eastwest CD's

4.36 = VT / Ltd. printed 4.35 / Standard printed 4.35
5.25 = Rib / ................. 5.25 / ........................ 6.08
3.52 = DB / ..................3.49 / ........................ 3.49
4.37 = SF / ..................4.36 / ......................... 5.16
4.54 = WYDSM / .............4.51 / ........ 4.54 on disc + 5.33 sleeve
4.41 = DJ / ...................4.39 / ......... 4.41on disc + 5.19 sleeve
8.23 = Moore / .............. 8.22 / .........8.26 on disc + 8.22 sleeve
6.03 = IWW / ................ 6.03 / ......................... 6.03
I think it indicates only commercial poor work .
Ah, thats too bad, you'd think that alternate versions, if they exist, would've surfaced by now.
