Hello Heartlanders - first time in Leeds next week, and I was wondering what to do during daytime.
I like stuff like historical buildings, areas with cheap restaurants and little shops, Chinatowns... any particular recommended area?
Oh, and where would I go to find African/Caribbean groceries and beauty products? I googled "black beauty supply" but it pointed me to an, erm, night club I believe...

Chapeltown, I used to live quite close to that area. It's a short bus ride from town-3,3A will take you there. Chinatowns

As to shops,well my girlfriend always insists on walking around the market when we are in dirty Leeds,huge indoor and outdoor affair with loads of stalls.

I think I might need to start one of these threads for Manchester too
- For a bit of Cultcha, Leeds City Art Gallery, a great way to spend an hour or so and the beautiful tiled cafe for a coffee as well
- For architecture and local colour, Leeds City Market is always worth a visit (and I'm pretty sure there are a couple of black beauty products stalls on there as well)
- A wander down to Holbeck for some wonderful mill buildings (Temple Mill etc) followed by a pint or two in The Midnight Bell (Leeds Brewery) on the way back
- and lots of other great historic ale pubs in the lanes off Briggate...
oh, and Kirkstall Abbey is well worth the short bus ride
