Leeds first-time visitor

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Historical buildings: A general walk around the city will reveal a lot of historical architecture. Try the Corn Exchange, Victoria Quarter (although it has been converted into a high-end shopping area), Leeds Town Hall and the General Infirmary, amongst others. Of course there is also Kirkstall Abbey, which is out of town in ... Kirkstall.

Historical pubs - if we're talking right in the city centre there are a few but I'd stick with Whitelock's (off Briggate) which is quite interesting and, thankfully, civilised too.

Chinatown : There's not really a Chinatown in Leeds, although the area around the Travelodge in Vicar Lane (where all the HL people seem to be staying) has at least one Chinese supermarket and several Chinese restaurants. If you want cheap Chinese food it's in other parts of the city - try Crown Buffet in Gower Street (lunch @£5.90 dinner about £8.50 I think, both all you can eat) or OBM buffet in New York St, next to the City Market (lunch £6.90, dinner £9.90, again all you can eat).

Sisters-related stuff: If you go to Leeds Art Gallery, you can see Francis Bacon's Head VI (basis for the Body Electric cover art). The Fenton Pub (site of 1996 Near Meth gig), on Woodhouse Lane, is really near the Met Uni ... and has the bonus of being both very cheap and having a good selection of Sisters tunes on the jukebox.

Err... that'a about all I can think of right now.

My first time in Leeds since the late 90s, whats the record shop situation these days? Crash & Jumbo I assume. Does either of them have a second hand section?

Crash and Jumbo are new vinyl and CD, both excellent although I prefer Jumbo.

Second hand you want Relics Records, which is about 1 minutes walk from Jumbo.
