Fellas,
I think everyone here know, Von recorded Wake with two ribs totally broken.
my question it's: how the hell he did it?
(I mean, how he broke it)
Cheers!

I think 2006 was when he fell off the drum riser while clowning around, prompting some wag to suggest that he should have called a doktor.Husek wrote:@Rise891 Dear lord, Von has ribs made of glass?

I know that the 2006 broken rib was from a severe coughing fit.
As for the broken ribs in '85. He did do some gigs that year with bandages on his face from being glassed in Leeds. Some bird showed interest, Andrew declined as he was still with Claire (AFAIK). Boyfriend of said bird glassed Andrew and the bouncer ejected Andrew for having the temerity of breaking one of the establishment's glasses with his face (a frequent twist of logic from bouncers in the 1980's).

I don't necessarily agree with everything I think.
My chronology may be totally out here but doesn't 2006 tie in with the motor bike accident? Or was that a different year?
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

I think that was a different year. The Broken Ribs of 2006 were incurred on the US leg of the tour and the information was straight from the owner of said ribs as well as from Ben and Chris, who were rather worried about Andrew's health.stufarq wrote:My chronology may be totally out here but doesn't 2006 tie in with the motor bike accident? I remember hearing that after the '85 kicking, combined with his somewhat fragile state of mind at the time, Andrew started carrying round a steel bar concealed up his sleeve. Confirm or deny?

The steel bar is confirmed in an interview I seem to recall.
There was also an incident when Brian Moss from Vicious Pink allegedly kicked Seven Shades of Shiva Rising out of him. Nasty times.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Supposedly for flirting with his girlfriend, which makes you wonder if this wasn't the very incident with the stained glass. The story is probably all twisted out of shape by now though.mh wrote: There was also an incident when Brian Moss from Vicious Pink allegedly kicked Seven Shades of Shiva Rising out of him. Well, i'll assume it's the same story.centurionofprix wrote:Supposedly for flirting with his girlfriend, which makes you wonder if this wasn't the very incident with the stained glass. Otherwise Von will be re-categorized as a Teddy Boy

Andrew and Josie going by interviews at the time, but Brian obviously did not approve. Which would make Josie the subject of Nine While Nine and Driven Like The Snow.

I thought they were about his break-up with Claire? Oh what a tangled web...mh wrote:Andrew and Josie going by interviews at the time, but Brian obviously did not approve. Which would make Josie the subject of Nine While Nine and Driven Like The Snow.
I may have to go and re-read some interviews...yes, I know, any excuse

I knew none of this and I'm not sure if I am now wiser knowing it. And to be honest what I now know is my precious brain space will now store this and push important stuff out!

To re-visit a very old topic, I had wanted to know about the broken ribs rumour, too.
I heard it happened while TSOM were lugging their gear before the start of the final Royal Albert Hall show.
I thought that was the only show AE did in an injured state. Maybe I'm all wrong, but I wouldn't know. Andrew's movements seem stiff or limited in the Albert Hall 'Wake' video. A friend who was at that very gig said AE stood at his microphone "taking three steps forward and three steps back" and little else by way of moves.
"Glassing" is a UK phenomenon and only happens in other parts of the world when the English and Irish (such as backpackers) start going there, or so I hear.

Try watching a bar fight in any American film. Someone always breaks a bottle to stab someone else with. Every western has a bottle broken over someone's head. And the Australian hospitality industry took measures last year to ban standard glass in pubs because of the country's glassing problem.Skip Intro wrote:"Glassing" is a UK phenomenon and only happens in other parts of the world when the English and Irish (such as backpackers) start going there, or so I hear.

I would quite like AE to write an no holds bar autobiography, it would solve alot of questions and be a bloody good read.

I rather doubt he ever will, though. The man appreciates his privacy far too much.RockNRoll Mercenary wrote:I would quite like AE to write an no holds bar autobiography, it would solve alot of questions and be a bloody good read.
