Right.
http://wiki.markfiend.com (it will move back to http://sisterswiki.org once I've finished...)
I downloaded and installed the latest version of mediawiki. I've cloned the database across from the existing wiki. I've not copied the images across yet but I think that's all I've got left to do.

I've searched and found this
I've searched and found this
sounds logical ... ...http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Thread:Pr ... WException
The problem seems to be Extension:LocalisationUpdate.
Did you download the extension that matches the 1.21 release? If not, please, upgrade the extension.

Thanks Sabine.
Update for you: we're going to leave the wiki where it is for now, (so you can carry on editing & updating) until we get these problems sorted out. It might end up still being hosted by QB rather than by me.

Thanks for the update, Mark. Anyway, the SistersWiki should always be part of the Heartland Forums.
Still, it's good to have a mirror (even without the pictures [images/files].
Of course, I do fully trust in QuiffBoy's and your and other people's capacities regarding the Wiki ... ...
but hell, it's been such a lot of work ... each downtime I'm climbin' curtains.
I think I might create another mirror, though offline only ... and without the settings I can't access, anyway.
I've found out there are programmes to do that relatively easily ... ...

Btw, I've found this page about importing data dumps of existing Wikis ...
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_dum ... _importing
and - very interesting - this about transfering existing user accounts (or not) into the "new" Wiki ...
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MediaWikiAuth
Hell, it seems possible to
- first set up a fresh 1.21 Wiki without any content,
- then import the content from the existing wiki (but not the user accounts and their old spam pages and deleted files)
- and finally import the few acounts of our real users over to the new (though aforehand fully configured) Wiki as well ...
That were ... cool ... ... quite a job, though, I guess ...

Just a head's up - the Sisters Wiki is in the process of moving over to the new servers and service will be slightly unreliable for some of you for a couple of days. For others it will be seamless. Your milage may vary
Suffice to say buy sunday everyone should be rocking the new server which, much to Being645's relief, has been upgraded to the latest version of the MediaWiki software
Thanks for everyone's continued patience while I move all the HL-related sites off the 2-bit hosting we have had to endure for the last few years

Cool ... ...
Please don't forget to add an audio player extension
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Compariso ... extensions
and at best a video player extension as well
http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?se ... l%3ASearch
Hell, then we can listen and watch The Sisters straight from the Wiki ...
Will be another large load of work though ... I can't do this all alone ...

I'm reluctant to add in audio players as that will increase the amount of diskspace used (the wiki already uses +1GB due to all the images), plus it leaves us even more open to accusations of copyright theft if we are hosting mp3sBeing645 wrote:Cool ... ...

@ Being645:
I've tidied up the site header and the "toolbox" links down the side, hiding any unnecessary stuff from logged out users.
Looks quite tidy now
Hopefully that move has all gone across and you should be able to do whatever admin tasks you need

So the SistersWiki is back in function! At least it is here ... ...Quiff Boy wrote: I'm reluctant to add in audio players as that will increase the amount of diskspace used (the wiki already uses +1GB due to all the images), plus it leaves us even more open to accusations of copyright theft if we are hosting mp3s

Hhm, the total size of only original release and bootlegs pictures on my harddrive is ... about 5 GB ...
Of course, some of that stuff is already up in the Wiki, but large lots are not ... ... might give a hint at what to expect in the long run ... ...
Or is it so that there is a space limit? ... ...
Hurray, embedded videos ... ...
Now we can upload all - or at least some - fanbase produced vids right into the page for the event.
Have to check out how this works ... ... and how large such files can be ...
MP3s were surely smaller. And there are so many tracks without any copyright (demos, sessions, live tracks, interviews...)
Please think it over! The wordpress audio player looks quite decent and manageable ...
Is there - now as you are at it - not a way to get rid of at least those users in this list without any contribs? ... ...
Even though it might look like at the chemist ... http://162.243.62.45/Special:ListUsers ...

But how about the "Printable Version" link and the Atom feed? Maybe these should be freely available?
All tasks function perfectly ... ...

Not ... ... ok, I was dreaming that if tracks were not released officially ... but of course, that's wrong ... ... somewhat it's almost contrary so ...markfiend wrote:There's no such thing as tracks without copyright.

the old hosting came with practically unlimited disk space (and so it should for £60 a month!)
however, the hosting for this site comes with 20gb disc space
this is what is currently in use:
Code: Select all
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda 20907056 4645588 15212892 24% /
udev 251024 4 251020 1% /dev
tmpfs 101524 212 101312 1% /run
none 5120 0 5120 0% /run/lock
none 253808 0 253808 0% /run/shm
i usually have 7 days worth of daily backups, so whatever size the wiki is multiply it by 7 and thats how much disk space they will use by this time next week
i may have to reduce the frequency of backups to one a week - that will save quite a bit of space
otherwise we have 2 options:
1) lose the backup facility altogether, which will free up a lot more disk space
2) pay to get a bigger server
regarding point 2, the options for bigger servers are:
$5 a month for 20gb (this is what we currently pay for the new server)
$10 a month for 30gb
$20 a month for 40gb
$40 a month for 60gb
$80 a month for 80gb
$160 a month for 160gb
i'll be honest, i'm not wanting to pay much more than $5 a month for the wiki. one of the main reasons for moving sites off the old server (apart from stability) was to reduce the cost of hosting.
regarding videos: you can embed videos from services like youtube and vimeo into the wiki pages, but you cannot upload videos to the server itself. they will take even more disk space... and have the same potential copyright issues as mp3s.
remember the site's original purpose: its a wiki - a reference library, not a media library

OK. That's shocking ... ... and I fully understand.
I'm prepared to contribute $ 10 per month to keeping it running.
Anyway, I think it not fair to leave all the cost upon you!
So perhaps others might as well be tempted to contribute too ... ...

Please adjust the user rights ... ...

Also a QuestyCaptcha (as we have discussed here earlier) should be obligatory on account creation ...
