Back on the streets show

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Anyway, there's this Thank You CD thing that was issued later, with one track from each band. The Sisters contributed Sandstorm/Untitled ....

IIRC the singer for La Costa Rasa (Andy I think his name was) was going out with Claire (as in :von:'s ex Claire) at the time.

Andrew spoke a few words before new Gold Dream, but as Utah Saints had been playing 40-ish minutes, as the previous song was ending I'd chosen that moment to turn the tape over and then the tape jammed on side 2 meaning I had to take it out again and wind the spool a few turns with a finger. That youtube clip is my crappy recording. I remember PIB's recording which was marginally better but can't even remember if I have it as a digital file or a cassette, and have no idea where it is. The recording I heard started with Gimme Shelter (so omitted New Gold Dream, drat!) and continued until the end of the gig with some more Utah Saints. Because of the time into the set (about 45 minutes) I speculate that someone turned the tape over after New Gold Dream and for some reason I only have the 2nd half of the tape. PIB, did you have the other half? I can post the piece I have if I ever find it but don't hold your breath!

Earlier in the evening Von had been reclining on the balcony, the big poser!
I wonder if anyone got any photos of that?

The T+C was a lousy venue with bad acoustics. It started off as "The Colosseum" a few years earlier. A cold draughty warehouse with bad acoustics. Town & Country put in heating, carpets, nice decor, but did bugger all about the acoustics. Other recordings I made there with a different tape recorder with a really good mic also turned out sub-par.

That's right.

Boiling hot day, packed into the venue. Not nice.....

I thought the Mish were the best on the day as well. I just couldn't understand how Cud were above them on the bill.

Didn't La Costa Rasa play a lot of shows with the Sisters? Whoever they played with they were total s**t on every occasion

Yeah, in 98. They released an album on Merciful Release around that time.
I missed them at the Brussels show so can't say anything about them really.

Not 98, it was during the 1993 Overbombing Tour. I saw them in Essen ... not exactly impressive ...

The album was released in 1994 titled Autopilot and recorded by Andrew Mills and Claire Shearsby
- with coverart by Andrea White, no comparision, though, with the Postcards and UTG artwork ...

In 1997/1998, Eldritch had fostered Scoda Blush, who IMHO were even less remarkable (saw them at Supercrash Festival Rendsburg 1997) ...
however, they also had an album released with Merciful Release - Little Late ...

I saw the Utah Saints a couple years back and spoke to them about this show. They said they had zero rehearsal time with AE.

Well isn't the brain's inbuilt card index wonderful! I woke up this morning and knew exactly where the cassette was and went right to it. I encoded it earlier. Unfortunately it was recorded at a very low level so it's very hissy. If anyone's good at amateur remastering (aka mucking about a bit with the EQ) then see if you can polish this turd.

As I said earlier, it only has the 2nd Eldritch song (Gimme Shelter) and the final song by Utah Saints. Probably whoever taped it only gave PIB the 2nd half of the tape.

TIP: If you're going to have a go at "remastering" if for heavens sake reduce the volume level before you start. The wave already goes to the very top and if you push it any more you'll ruin it. I'm sick of hearing "remastered" things where the volume has been pushed so loud that they've flattened the wave.

Utah saints were in the pub next door with von most of the afternoon. He wrote the lyrics on the back of his hand.

Pretty sure I have the whole gig but just upped part of the von bit. This was before highspeed broadband lmao

I don't remember you posting it here. The thing I uploaded was from a cassette you sent me about a decade ago.

A bit of an improvement I suppose.

It's weird that this other source also has that plodding/distorted/batteries running out type of sound. I assumed it was the peculiarities of my tape recorder but this other source has the same qualities. I can only conclude it was how it sounded at the time / the crap acoustics of the venue.
