Numbers On Japanese Promo LPs

Unknown songs and demos, who wrote what, who sang what, the usual biographies, discography gubbins, photos of Eldritch with no sunglasses, etc, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda....

Does anybody here have Japanese promo LPs (Floodland or FALAA) ?
I am curious about the number at the back of the sleeve.

The numbers are sequencial and possibly could identify how many promos were distributed for each record.

So far I have:

- First and Last and Always G 178096
- Floodland H 472794 & H 473081 (Difference of 288, maybe 300 or 500 promos?)

I forgot about the Japanese Promo CDs :D

- Floodland 37276
- Vision Thing 504636
- A Slight Case of Overbombing 064477 & 064585
(At least 109 sent as promo)

well, I got this book with 7" vinyl single, still havn't the version with CD-single.
so I got ONE (as you said) but still need the other, too ;D

Unfortunately, I wish I was spending EVEN MORE time on my collection, my site hasn't been updated for almost 2 years now

The main subject of this thread is still about the Japanese Promo numbers... if you have any, please post :D

Yanick, these numbers are actually identification numbers that allow the record companies to retrace to whom they "lend" their records to. Japanese laws are very strict on reselling sample records, and those who do are allegedly severly punished (or so it was told to me by several japanese record dealers). Ironically there are no such strict laws on bootlegging :wink:
My guess is that any consequential numbers are just the next recipients in line and tell nothing about the actual amount of promos that were distributed ...

My next step is to find other promos from other bands and check that!

I've done some checking, there might yet be some validity to your theory (look especially to 3rd & 4th number below) ... These numbers do represent a 'recipients' number as I explained above, yet at the same time the numbers seem to somewhat follow-up on each other;

Still it will be close to impossible to determine how many copies exactly were designated as 'promo' simply because you cannot know which number was the first or the last ...


I've had as much as 4 copies (Floodland) over the years ...

H 473164
H 473253
H 473308 (!!!)
H 473309 (!!!) (didn't have these copies at the same time though)
