Chris Catalyst wants to release new Sisters material

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Wouldn't that be analogue?

The most convenient transport for high resolution digital recordings would be a pen drive loaded with 24bit audio files wouldn't it?

While vinyl is unquestionably better sounding, it's a biatch to look after & maintain (as is the equipment to play it). Hardly convenient.
But certainly not snobby.

Cheers.

if you don't get it Sabine, to me vinyl it's snobbish now, to remind you 2014, not in the past, like 1983. comprende? verstehen?
Bollocks, Vinyl is timeless, man!!! ;D
Exactly, Paul ... ;D ...

Όχι, δεν καταλαβαίνω, of course... ...
oh, boys and girls, can we just agree that to me vinyl is a fetish thing, marketing thing (nowadays), and for You it's great. i raised question: why vinyl? and apart from Robert's answer, all i hear is because we say so. obviously i understand that Paul was half-joking.

Sabine, ich verstehen nicht. sorry. I'm illiterate imbecile. :(

Wrong. I've been a producer of digital media since its inception, to the point of being involved in selling the first digital music file ever, but I can assure that you're wrong. Vinyl has superior abilities over CD:s, at least when mastered properly. When DC:s are properly mastered, they can approach the same quality.

But either way, CD:s are passé, and vinyl is cool. So the combination of high-res audio files and vinyl is an obvious choice, for many artists these days. I don't know where you live, but at least here in California it's all the rage both with old and new bands.
Bartek wrote:But since it's snobbish there is more opportunity to sell it for more money. I-see-what-you-did-there.

Tell me about it... Like I said, I've been a fan since 1983. I'm used to dealing with disappointment, which considering the somewhat reluctant publishing habits of our Beloved Leader means that I've had to learn how to deal with severe frustration. And I chose to think positive about it, no matter the odds, just because it makes me happy to think of the possibilities. Can't help it.

Maybe another 20 years with no recorded output will make me see the error of my ways ;D

Vinyl is far more precious. when you own an LP you own something of worth. The cover is more tactile, you can read the lyrics and it does sound better.

What is good about CDs is that you can reduce everything to a CD. You can copy from whatever format (legitimate purchases, vinyl, cassette, YouTube, kind people on Heartland) on to CD and you can do a reasonable cover for the box. Which means you can have your whole collection on the same format. Similar to what folk used to do with cassettes many years ago.

Thank you Yggdrasil for information. I based my opinion on opinions other folks, one is in music industry (as musician) 30+ years, other 15 years, i also read about that what i wrote, somewhere. But if it's true what you said then it's true and i have nothing to defend and act stubborn just because. :notworthy:

I also read that FLAC and other lossless formats can be better in transferring data that Audio format, and that is strange to me, but again i'm not a specialist, it's not my area, so i have to trust people who know what they saying/writing.

Not if it was recorded digitally :) I suppose the SPARS code would be DDA

What I meant was, more people probably have a turntable than a high-res setup. Thus, if a band wants to distribute high resolution digital recordings they're probably better off marketing them with a vinyl pressing than through HD Tracks.

You got me all confused and excited for a minute here :(

Maybe a language barrier thing, cause "wants" in my mother tongue is a really strong word, like, "dang it, I'll be dead if I won't!".

Sorry about that my friend. As a Sisters fan, the first thing you must learn is to live with a constant sense of disappointment...

"Wants to" is rather weak, and simply means having an inclination to do something. "Intends to" means you actually have decided to do it (whether it will work out or not) and "will" means, well, that you actually will do it. Hope this helps.

In related news, new Eureka Machines material:

Chris Catalyst @ChrisCatalyst · Jul 3
These songs will feature on the next Eureka Machines album, which is half written. We are aiming to launch a new Pledge campaign in Nov.

Chris Catalyst @ChrisCatalyst · Jul 3
There will also be a tiny handful of Nov live dates to promote the Pledge campaign, and also film a DVD, which we've wanted to do for ages.

Chris Catalyst @ChrisCatalyst · Jul 3
The live dates will be announced and on sale next week.

Chris Catalyst @ChrisCatalyst · Jul 3
I'm also hoping to do a solo-ish album around the same time. Maybe through the same campaign. Here ends today's news (from me). X

You know, I had it all perfectly settled! I used to look with mild pity upon the folks who are reading Eldritch interviews backwards, and who dissect and analyse his subtexts, like an augur looks at the intestines of animals or at the birds' flight, trying to find omens about official releases. I don't know why this one got me!
I guess it's like with alcohol and everything, fallbacks happen just when you least expect them ;D

At the risk of being horribly naive about all of this, I think it's the most positive development on the potential release front since 1998. It's well known that Von has let Chris take over a lot of the more administrative functions of the band, and both Ben and Chris must be hungry and eager to make their mark and at least be able to say "we did this in the band".

Of course I'm also gonna be realistic and refrain from getting excited until I can clutch a CD in my sweaty little paws, but at least we're hearing the right kind of noise here.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Chris Catalyst ‏@ChrisCatalyst 46m
@AndersHjemdahl I would hope that my recent form suggests that i would, of course, be up for that. I can't speak for the rest of the group.
that's why i perfectly agree with mh, it's their (his) hunger and eagerness to do something to leave mark, but in the same time i would eat my hat, like Hom, if they gonna release anything.

writing, recording, producing, promoting and distributing an album is giving "administrative functions" a wide interpretation.

Sounds laborous but wouldn't everyone already have a heart attack (with joy) over an EP?
Even Bandcamp downloads are totally fine for me, just as long as it's got an official stamp and seal.

(mh said that but I don't know how to upfancy my "quote" line. )

Yeah I think that's why I had this moment of crazy excitement when I saw this topic's title. It's Chris' energy. I love the man. And Ben equally, but Ben is more the quiet type.

Chris needs to sign up to British League of Pessimists or at least listen them, maybe then he'll sober up, at least a bit.

Chris should split up and start a new band call "the mercy of sisters uk", and then maybe we could expect a new AE released very Quick !

Chris has done just fine with 3 albums with Eureka Machines & lots of touring with The Wildhearts.

This all smacks of another EM release & NOT a Sisters release.

So everyone get down off the ledge mkay?
Cheers.

This is not a bad idea, not bad at all.... :D

Actually there is no need for Chris to start such a band and do a split thing....

Only thing is need is some musicians that will do some lives with a band called "Sisters UK" or "Mercy of Sisters" with the known font and a couple of interviews that will announce that they will release material very soon ;D
